I know we’ve talked about this before, there’s so much that gets built (this kit is insane) and then gets covered up. Have you ever thought of doing a “visible” airplane? Like leave the cowling off so the intricate engine details can be seen or leaving a section of the fuselage off so you could see the entire cockpit, upper wing skin off above guns, so the guns and ammo storage is visible, stuff like that.

Hi All, Been awhile. 😀 I’ve had a guitar on the bench for a good month. Our weather has turned for the year, rain, wind and 40-50s are here for 4-5 months, so will have more time on the bench. Is the place for building confession? 😆 I am learning so much on this build. I think you have to be half card modeling engineer and draftsman to catch everything on the drawings (if you can call them that). I was at a loss on how to roll small items, like landing gears, tubes, exhaust pipes etc. and then I spot this on the page… The part that says print on PAPER… not card stock. That would make rolling easier! 😆😖 Then I couldn’t get my body sections to come together nicely so I looked at some other kits and they had connecting strips that were not just pieces of straight paper or card. So I cut the connecting strip to look like: Wow, what a difference which leads us to this. 😀

Tim - Nice Tomcat photo. I was a tomcat maintainer back in the late 70s. Nice shop! 😀👍

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
