  1. You ship is looking very good Sir! Thanks for the clear lacquer tip for the decks, I might do that. I really like your paint collection. Question; how old is some of that paint and how long do you think the shelf life is?
  2. Guess I’m going to be the only here yet to say “ONE”! 😁 Not to say that after I’m done cutting my teeth on the Lady Nelson I might work on more than 1 build. But right now, every step of my 1st build is a new adventure. 👍
  3. Good work. What name do we call you? Look at some build logs concerning the squaring of the bulkheads. Many approaches, one will hit you. Intricate building jigs, squares, Lego blocks, clamps etc., something will reach out to you. 😀
  4. Hola Artesania Latina! Welcome aboard! 👍😀
  5. Welcome! Glad to have you aboard!👍😀
  6. Looking forward to it. Don’t be shy about asking questions! 👍
  7. Bump what everyone said above. What I found was the sets that cost $20 or so from Amazon have a good hand drill, the set of micro bits… that’s where I had issues. So, I bought the smaller bits separate in packs of 10 as I broke the originals (or deemed them useless). The bits you can buy are WAY superior to the bits that come in a kit.
  8. I’ve decided to keep the mast and the bow sprit “wood” with no paint. I’ll paint the spars black. The kit has walnut dowels for everything. Any suggestions on stain? Just leave it?
  9. Jim - post a photo or two with the description of your progress. 😀
  10. I spent the day fixing the mounts. I filled in the old cut out and square holes, then laid out the new position for the cross brace, cut new notches and the sprit sits at the angle per the drawing. 👌 I then drilled a 1mm hole through the mounts and the sprit and will use wire. I don’t have what it takes to cut out a 1mm square. On to other deck equipment and more eyelets.
  11. The rattler is one of my future builds. I’ve pulled up the “follow” chair for your Rattler. 👍😀
  12. Hi Joe, I would start from scratch and mechanically clean the entire part and start your blacken from scratch. The exposed bare parts are probably oxidized and won’t take the blackening solution. Your results were the same as mine before I mechanically cleaned the parts to remove protective finishes applied by the manufacturer. They blackened beautifully and then whipped right off like yours did. Give it a try. 👍
  13. Thanks Greg. I have Glenn’s completed Lady saved on speed dial and I visit it often when something I’m not sure about comes up and his build is a creation of quality that inspires me and gives me a result to strive for. I’m going to rebuild the original parts, will send photos when complete. Thanks 👍
  14. Thanks Glenn. Good insight. I have found at least 5 drawing errors so far, this is the worst. I'll have to think about this one. 😐
  15. Hi All, This question is really for anyone who has built the Lady. I'm to a point where I'm building the implements and structures on deck. The bow sprit mount... all per drawing and in place. I set the bow sprit in place. It doesn't even come close to sitting in the cutout at the bow ( see photo 1) without the angle being all wrong. The box cover from Amati shows the bow sprit way up off the cutout and covering the holes for the forestay. is this one of those fix the bad kit moments? Lowering the mount?
  16. Hi All, Don’t see a forum sub area where a build log for the NRG Half Hull project would fit. I plan to build the Half Hull before I start the Rattlesnake as it is a single plank “POB”, and I remember what my first planking was like on the Lady Nelson and must know what I’m doing before I start it.
  17. I can’t help it. Comes from a lifetime of: being raised in a military family, then being in the military for 16 years, then 33 years at major aircraft manufacturer and all the way hearing, seeing and doing “clean as you go”. 😀
  18. Welcome Marty, glad to have you. Look forward to your build. 👍😀
  19. Welcome to the forum! Good place! Go say hi in the new member area. 😀
  20. Hey Tim, I did not follow your build (too many to follow on the forum). Outstanding build! I too am a first time builder and hope you don’t mind if I pick your brain about some of your rigging techniques. I hope my first build comes even a little close to this beautiful ship! 👍
  21. Yo Cat - welcome to the forum. Some of the processes and procedures for home building is the same on a model ship... just WAY smaller.😆 Look forward to your build. 👍
  22. I’m totally down with that Allan! After spending a few hours this week, just starting the process, was just curious about the time it takes for a larger model.
