Thought I'd have a go at the Greener harpoon gun... until I saw how small it is in 1:20 scale!
I could of course do it with the lid closed, but that would be no fun, right?
Gun length spot, on, but too wide. Varifocal specs can be a pain...
Need to make the twine coils (the made them up to 1200lb breaking strain apparently)... roped up a length from three twists of 8/0 tan fly tying thread.
Putting the elements together...
Tight fit, but happy with the result. Just needs handle attached, corners and tapes between lid and base.

I've now made up and added the main mastcoat, jeer bitts and gallows, the two columns for the aft part of the chain pump crank handles and the stanchions for the forward part of the crank handles. The deck beams forward of the beam above the columns have not been permanently installed yet. I then made up the chain pump cisterns. The great laser cut parts for all of these items made the process relatively easy and fun.
Getting everything lined up properly was less easy and less fun. Making up and installing the cranks was even less so. At this point, I have done only the center and forward portions, and I'm seriously considering redoing them. I will have just over a month to think about this, since we're leaving for New Jersey tomorrow and won't be back until early September.

Hello modeling friends.
Animated by the pictures by Gregory Franchetti
and the drawing by Jean Boudriot,
I try to build the three gun decks as a cross-sectional model on a scale 1/24.
First, I made an auxiliary construction four the mounting and alignment of the frames,
to strengthen them, the bar timbers and the deck beam girdes were installed,
the first gundeck was planked.
The whole now has the required stability for the further interior design.

Started making the gratings.
But I made a mistake with the orientation of the large one so soaked the one I had made in alcohol to dissolve the glue.
Once this was done I was able to make the three gratings in the proper orientation.
The sanded them all to size.
Made up the coaming for the large grate and sanded all smooth. Poly not applied yet.

I hope you are right, druxey! Paul, yes, I made the clamps--credit goes to Ed Tosti, you can find them on his build log for Naiad.
While most of my work this week has been on Oneida, I have spent some time slowly sanding the bollard timbers to fay to the stem.
They need to match the concave taper of the upper stem--
Still some work needed, but they are getting close. The overall width is constant now at the head and foot of the assembly--
Once I have them tapered correctly to the stem, I'll start roughly beveling them forward, and at the foot where they meet the lower apron.

A small update. I have continued to move forward with beams, lodging knees and hanging knees. I also added the second column, glued in the capstan and added the pawls. With the addition of a hanging knee, I was able to mount and rig the remaining two guns under the quarterdeck.
Now it's time to tackle the chain pumps.

Continuing to move forward. I first dealt with the companionway. I chose to do metal stanchions with a rope rail, rather than the wooden posts and railing used by Chuck. I just liked the lighter look better. The stanchions are #24 wire with eyes bent at the top.The rope is .018".
I then did the first column, shaping the laser cut part with files and painting it red.
The remaining work was adding additional beams with their lodging and hanging knees. The laser cut lodging knees had to be adjusted slightly to fit, and the laser cut hanging knees were shaped to fit using files and sanding sticks. The sides of the beams, the edge of the lodging knees and the whole of the hanging knees were painted red.

Finished the port side planking up to sheer and did a light sanding. After all the work of measuring and cutting the individual pieces it looks good. When the 2nd layer of moulding is on the planking will look more better as the uneven thicknesses wouldn't be visible. The process of cutting the individual pieces got quicker as I went along so I hoping the starboard side won't take as long.

I went to Fedex Office and I had the same problem printing the plans, I did not return after the second time they printed wrong ... now I build this frigate that is 44 inches long, I think I am in 1:35 scale.(on the right,another frigate,1:48-36 inches)

My latest offering are photos of the hair brackets just finished today.
Not as difficult as I thought they may be, Chucks instructions are easy to follow.
Eagerly awaiting the parts for chapter seven.

Moving forward, I made up and added the mizzen mast coat. I then made up and added the forward bulkhead and then the panel between the two bulkheads, adding the small pieces atop the panel to fit around the beams. After that work was completed, I permanently mounted the three beams between the bulkheads and then fitted and added the lodging knees between those beams. All of the exposed wood was given a coat of Wipe-on Poly. While adding the beams and knees, I continually checked with a planking strip to ensure that everything remained fair and level.

While waiting for Chapter Seven parts to arrive I took the opportunity to mount the cannon using a method borrowed from C. Nepean Longridge’s book “THE ANATOMY OF NELSONS SHIPS”.
This was achieved By drilling a .8mm hole through both carriage cheeks , rear axle and deck, then by inserting .8mm brass pins into these holes the carriages are held firmly in place with the advantage that they can be removed should the need arise.
Having purchased the blocks from Chuck some time ago I decided to have a go at rigging the cannon.
First off was to make some rope, 1mm for the breaching and .4mm for stropping plus the purchase for hauling the cannon into the firing position.
Next up a jig was made to strop the single block, form a becket at one end and attach a hook at the other.
The double block was stropped with its hook on the same jig.
I chose to use this configuration after coming across the drawing in Doctor Longridge’s book.

I was faced with a “never done this before” situation with my Chris Craft runabout. A detailed explanation of trials and then the actual process can be found in my build log here starting on page 5 at post 145 for the trials and page 6 post 153 for the actual process. I was guided a lot by a tutorial I found on the RC Groups forum.

Hi All
I got a bit more done this weekend and have now finished shaping the transom pieces. I think the advice that Adrian Sorolla gives in his excellent book is spot on with these parts. He recommends just taking your time and getting them right and I agree with this. I'm hoping that they are as they should be but I guess I'll find out when I make the fashion pieces which is my next task. They look particularly tricky but I'll give it my best shot. A few pictures of the progress below
