  1. Doris, What an excellent crew. The figures and the painting are really extraordinary nice. King George II and Queen Caroline can be proud of them. Thanks for sharing. Regards John
  2. Hi barth, Your most welcome to join the club of The King. Wish you a lot of fun. Regards, John
  3. Hi Adrieke, Only the pictures of the last (succesfull) operation are shown , not the ones of the earlier attempts with no good result. As said, three times I had to demolish the end result, so no easy peasy job. By the way, I cut off the last bar of the long railing in order to match with the first deck. I will be glad if the pictures are of help to you, good luck my friend. Regards, John
  4. Joe, Jim, Sjors, Wim, Thanks a lot for your comments, this is really encouraging for me. Much appreciated. Regards, John
  5. Finished the first deck stairways. It was not an easy job to me, it took me a week and have redone them several times to have them symmetrical to each other and to have a 180 degrees winding. Maybe it can be of help to beginner builders to describe the way I at last succeeded: 1. Glued the first curved step to the stairway column at the height of 5 steps 2. Glued the other curved steps with a minimum of overlap 3. Glued one straight step to arrive at a winding of 180 degrees 4. Glued the other 4 straight steps to each other, again with a minimum of overlap and with help of some wood as a frame 5. Glued the short railing to the 4 straight steps and then all together to the stairway column 6. Finished by glueing the long railing and handrails Have dryfitted the stairways after each and every step to see whether they will fit. As can be seen, one of the loose end of the long railings was broken, so I decided to cut it of from the other longrailing as well. If I donot like the result when placed the stairs on deck, I will restore them. Regards John
  6. Hello Wim, Thanks for restoring this built log. It is a great built, I really enjoyed the pictures. Regards John
  7. Hi Adrieke, Indeed, if you want to do a proper job you need a proper workspace, otherwise it all ends up in a mess. You did a good paint job on the rod arms, I like the contrast of red against black. Regards John
  8. Sjors, I love it, especially the contrast with the black paint, but have no idea if that is historically accurate. Regards John
  9. Sjors, If you cannot find what you need, then try Harold's (Burgemeester van Walsumweg). They have all kind of foils for decoration, art works and modeling. Look at this link: http://www.harolds.nl/p/papier/plakplastic/metallic Have a nice day John
  10. Having read your log with great pleasure. Nice built, nice pictures. Your beautiful work is inspiring. Thanks and regards, John
  11. Hi Doris, As always, breathless admiration for your work. Will follow your built with pleasure. Regards, John
  12. Thanks Brian, Donot overestimate, as you will experience with building the Mare, it is just a matter of start a build and do your utmost to arrive at a good result. Nothing special, if you like modeling it is just fun. Regards John
  13. Arjan, This is an impressive built, partly due to your modifications. It is a pleasure to look at the pictures. Regards John
  14. Thanks Wim, thanks Sjors Luckily I found a "winterschilder" so got a great discount on the job Regards John
  15. Having painted the window shutters. An extensive job, there are 48 shutters in total. This is the end result.
  16. Hi Sjors, Am very curious to see the end result with the gratings. I search Internet how these should look like, but couldnot find it, so I wait for completion by you. What I found on internet could be of interest to you, namely the complete list of commanders, officers and service record. Here is the link: http://3decks.pbworks.com/w/page/915106/HCMS%20San%20Ildefonso%20(1785) Regards John
  17. Hello Downeaster, It is good to see your build log again. After the crash my build log of the Mare was the only completed one out of the four, which felt as a pity. Welcome back. Regards John
  18. Hi Rhodri, You are completely right, thats the way to do it. The paint I used was enamel paint from Revell. Tried acrylic paint but since you have to wipe off the paint before it dries up, it appeared that there rested not enough paint in the carves. Regards John
  19. Thanks Adrieke, but nope, I think you are still ahead of me. You have already prepared a lot of parts. Think that the most time consuming is the scratch build of the doors and windows you intend to do.
  20. Hi Adrieke, Sorry to hear of your father. Hope he will recover soon. Assume these are the circumstances that the geographic distance is a barrier not being able to step just on the bike and pay him a visit. Best regards John
  21. Hi Wim, This is a very interesting ship indeed. Will follow your build. Regards John
  22. This is a great built Ron. Thanks for the pictures, I enjoyed them. Regards John
  23. Thanks Wim, Had a look at your builds, they are all very nice. So I am delighted with your compliment and hope my King will end up acceptable. Anyhow it is great fun to build this Huckleberry Finn paddle steamer. Regards, John
