Hi Adrieke, Thank you very much for your warning. By planking the 2nd deck I noticed that the veneers are not exactly equal in width. So I constantly check whether the two sides are still in line and correct them with smaller or broader veneers. Much appreciate your concern. Regards, John

As already noted by Adrieke and Wim, the slots in the third deck are misplaced, causing the stacks to be listed. Have corrected this by amending the slots by 3 mm (again the thickness of the wood, someone was sleeping at Artesania's). The 3rd deck will be planked in a herringbone pattern like the second deck. In the instructions of AL this pattern is disrupted at the small sides. Since I donot like this disruption I will proceed this pattern over the whole deck. (Yep the first photo was already taken before the stairs were placed). Regards, John

Hi Sjors, Now I fully understand (no you are not speaking double dutch). This phenomenon has to do with the angle of the camera with such close shots. Just was afraid that you were seeing my ugly face in the reflection of the wave catcher. Regards, John

Hi Daniel, She is looking very well and must say the distortion caused by the coarse glass gives the ship a nice mysterious look, while one still can see the quality is obvious. I like it. Regards, John

At last I succeeded to create the socalled wave catcher. The kit supplied mahogany (sapeli) with a thicknes of 2 mm which snapped by trying to bend it. Have bought mahogany with a thickness of 1.5 mm in accordance with the parts list. After wasted 1 meter I now begin to understand how to bend extreme curves. Regards, John

Hi Adrieke, Admire your courage to complicate this build with lights, for which you have to do a lot of modifications. Maybe the next time I built the King will follow your model. Keep the good work going. John

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
