  1. If the spare spars are iron, then they would be painted; if wood, then most probably left natural. The lashing ropes would be hemp coloured. John
  2. I think I'd leave them 'as is', Ollie. Any extension would be really obvious and new parts would require life threatening surgery. John
  3. Back at it already, Danny! Were the spare spars laid across the gallows and the after end of the forecastle with the boats stowed on the spars, perhaps? John
  4. Thatunloading gear is going to deserve a lot of care in building, Andy. From the look of that last photograph, it's going to really dominate the model. John
  5. Crikey, Augie, you've certainly been busy while I've been away. She's looking first class! John
  6. I've never seen this one before - looks like it will be a very interesting build. John
  7. Andy, Just catching up after some time away. That boom gear looks very impressive - hope the brass mesh turns out OK. John
  8. Keep a watch on the RFS website - they have up to date information on all current NSW fires - the link is: http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/dsp_content.cfm?cat_id=683 John
  9. Just catching up after being away for a week, Remco - very impressive indeed! John
  10. That looks a very nice yacht, Adam, she'll make a fine model. John
  11. Just catching up after a week away, mate! She's looking the ants pants - can't wait to see her with the deck on. John
  12. Just catching up after some time away, Ollie - she's coming along very nicely. I'm not sure what the discussion was re the margin planks, but as Tom says, they were definitely cut in around the frames. John
  13. Thanks for the link, Danny - that's pretty much fine enough to be used for chain sheets at 1:96. John
  14. Cheers, Popeye! I'm not all that fussed about it - it's not a killer error - I'm just annoyed with myself for making such a stupid blunder. John
  15. Remco, There's certainly no doubt about the two labels 'Galley' and 'Chimney', so that would seem clear. I can't quite make out the writing on the other opening, but it does look rather like a coaming. I've tried to enhance the contrast two of your pictures but I still can't make out the writing - perhaps you'll have better luck. John
  16. Yeah, Bob, 1:48 does seem a bit excessive at the moment! The luggers were actually kept pretty clean and tidy unless hauling up shell. As I'm building her as the 'Francis Pritt' - when a mission ship - now shell on deck I'm afraid Augie. John
  17. Sometimes plainer looks better, Tom! John
  18. Or the 0.5 you showed previously also looks good, Ollie - have you tried the small holes with the filler? John
