I know they have the manual online at Model Expo but not the plans. -

End snippers, what can we use them for?
cdogg replied to Modeler12's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I don't know but I want one, then I can figure it out! Where did it get purchased from? -
Hey Wes, my advice for the initial post is to take some pictures of the kit box and the contents, and from there just take random pictures of your progress. From that point people on MSW can chime in and answer any questions you have.

Hi Vivian, ship looks great! I do not have tons of experience, but I have had similar issues with twisted rigging. I pulled out the rope/string and reapplied pressure on the strings at different points until I got the darn thing to stay in place by some force of nature. I had the glue in hand to cheat but alas I didn't need it.

Thanks Eamonn. Going to start the hull planking today. Fingers crossed I got the bulkheads aligned without adjustments!

Small lockable tool chest
cdogg replied to mspringer's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I just bought a 4 drawer metal cabinet at Menards for $30. It has locking drawers as well as a lock on the top for all drawers. It works great for the dangerous stuff. As for the boat it goes up high on the shelf! -
Got the decks done. The stern sure was interesting. I know there are a lot of ways to plank the deck, I went with the method suggested by the book because it appears even though I am very careful with the wood strips I may come up short on inventory if I cut them up too much.

I am working on a Corel kit now, good quality wood and the metal is ok, but the instructions are not the best for builders with little experience. They seem to skip some basics while going step by step. If you have a few ships under your belt then it isn't an issue. My best example would be that the instructions assume you shaped a square piece of wood to match plans before reading.

Great news Walt. Look forward to seeing a build log. Also, good to see another Minnesota person on MSW. If you ever get up to Richfield, Hub Hobby has a ton of ship model tools there.

In the process of moving, haven't been able to get any progress. I planked the deck, which was actually pretty fun. Having some issue getting the transom to fit but that's all that is left to start with the first layer of planking. Plus, someone decided to pack up my tools so I need to find them. My filing set disappeared, these things have become a key component to shaping hulls for me!

Thanks guys. I have no clue what happened. Can I run a thin coating of polyurethane of the lines? It's very frustrating that it happened so fast!

Hello all- I recently finished up a Midwest Lobster Boat before X-mas. Then the temp was very cold and dry. The last few days the temp has gone up about 30 degrees and my boat has stayed in the same room. But, now the rigging seems to have expanded and is all hanging lower and no longer tight. The knots are ok but the string seemed to have changed. I used bees wax and thought it would be ok. Is this a common temperature change issue? Good thing it is easy to fix but I would to work on larger ship and have all this rigging slack overnight. I know this subject isn't new but this literally happened over the course of three days. Thanks!

Walt- Either way the Ranger is cool ship, you can always grab it cheap now and save it for later.

I think it depends on Your experience with model building. Corel doesn't have the greatest instructions. Plus their layout sheets aren't always accurate. But if you got a little experience you can notice this and fix yourself. Only my opinion of the maker, not the ship. If its a good price, go for it and start a build log here, there are tons of people who can answer any questions here on MSW.

Rick, I feel exactly the same way. Just doesn't seem right putting the card stock in there. I like Sailor's decal idea too, but I really want to try to paint this thing
