Very nice work Toni! May I ask how you milled the brass?

You are taking this good kit to a much higher level and it's looking great! Your craftsmanship "upgrades" are garnering a lot of well-deserved kudos, including mine.

Wow- just sat here and read through your entire log so far. As a few other Americans mentioned, the idea of a subscription model is totally novel idea to me. It's unfortunate something like this most likely wouldn't work here since newsstands are mostly found in cities (if at all anymore) and there's not enough hobby shops around to probably carry them. It seems like it would be a great fit for new modelers so I'm surprised when you mention people giving up- I would think if you bust a railing it would be way easier to go grab another magazine and try again than have to call the supplier or buy a whole kit again (or give up). I'm curious about the magazine- is it a standard modelling magazine or is it only directions/info on that installment of the model? What is the price weekly? Looking forward to following along!

Hachette offer different partworks in different countries. The Scharnhorst for example is German exclusive right now. U96 first was German exclusive, then was released in France and the UK. There's a lot of Hachette partworks in Italy that are never released in other countries. It's a big mess really. I don't think they deliver to the US at all.

Regarding the magazines they give background info relating to the topic at hand. For instance for Scharnhorst their are sections on her build and day-to-day operation, the missions she was involved in, but also sections on other important battleships at the time, maritime warfare in general and so on. For the Stuka and Tiger it was the same, but involving air and tank warfare obviously.

I love this model. If they offered the series here in the USA, would subscribe in a heartbeat. The planking looks great.

I chucked 1/4" round brass rod onto the rotory table of my Sherline mill.  Then I slowly milled down the rod to the correct dimensions.  The rotary table assured that the corners were at exactly 90 degrees.  One of the problems I had was that towards the end, especially when the metal got thinner, the flattened rod would deflect away from the mill cutter.  I used my finger to hole the end up to help prevent that.  The minor defection was then filed flat after milling.  The shape of the arms was made with an abrasive bit on the Dremel.

    Mike,

Are you using the graphite paper transfer method for all the necessary parts that need to be copied from the plans?  Or did you use a copy machine to make copies?

Interested in hearing how you transfer your templates to wood to be cut.

    Thanks

This painting is based on the wreck of the 'Peter Iredale'. She was a four-masted steel barque sailing vessel that ran ashore October 25, 1906, on the Oregon coast en route to the Columbia River. It was abandoned on Clatsop Spit near Fort Stevens in Warrenton about four miles (6 km) south of the Columbia River channel. Wreckage is still visible, making it a popular tourist attraction.

Bessey makes a near-identical clamp available on Amazon. I haven't tried them but uses other Bessey clamps for larger woodworking and love them.
