Enzo Ferrari by CDW - Tamiya - 1:12 Scale - PLASTIC
popeye the sailor replied to CDW's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
been lucky in that respect.......all we've seen so far are possums, skunks, and one appearance by a raccoon. every once in a while, we even get to see turkeys out in the field across the street. but as the squirrels and chippies congregate at the feeders, the hawks come call'in. we know because the Blue Jays sound the alarm! -
I'm eyeing this kit at the 'somewhat' local hobby store really like what I see here. look'in forward in seeing more. did you trim off all the stringers at the stern and cap it over?

call it coincidence...........this afternoon, the admiral was looking out the window, and there was a young hawk sitting on the wires! -
ohhh.........be still my heart..... here's a little story for yas......... my son showed me where HobbyTown moved to........sad to say that they aren't fairing well in this new location. they don't have as much as they used to, although the owner is really big on R/C cars and planes and the like. the selection of kits is fair, but the wood kits is dirt poor....only had a few on the shelf. one that he did have is a Dumas PT 109 kit......1:30 scale, so it's a relatively large box! they want $153.00 for it......I checked the Dumas site, and they list it for $195.00....it's quite a deal. now folks, I knew that if I brought this home, the admiral would have hit the roof........bad enough that I picked up my latest model kit on a whim, and I saw the whites of her eyes she knew I was picking up some paints........and she probably figured that I'd come home with something, so I picked up a couple small kits, thinking she wouldn't be too miffed about it. I told her about the Dumas kit....and she didn't even flinch over it.....>what<? so I asked her........you mean you wouldn't have gotten mad if I bought that kit??? she said no...when was the last time she got mad for me buying a kit?!?! wait........did something come loose when I last shook my head? more news on this soon.......definitely worth taking about of late, I have had this nasty cold.......settled in my chest { a really icky bugger too}. took the day off yesterday 'cuz I didn't want to deal with the nonsense at work............the place is gett'in on my nerves💩 today, I feel a bit better.....good enough to get something done on the Nine o Nine. I had done some painting on it previously.......rims on the tires, the figures, guns........other minor stuff. the wings have been assembled, after cementing the landing gear in place......I left them movable, since the tires aren't ready to be put on yet. the exposed turbos under the nacelles were also painted and need to be touched up. the cowls were taken off at this point. I used them to hold the wings together as they dried. the engines will be painted and somewhat detailed. the fuselage also need to get to the point where I can join the two halves together....the glass needs to be installed. not happy with them........they are too thick for one thing, and I also noticed that there isn't any glass for the tail windows. I tried to use the window maker for this, but found that they are too large for the stuff to close up. they also have enough of a curvature, so that trying clear cello might be out of the question {I'm still experimenting}. I did manage to get that side pane into the starboard side { due to the bulkheads}. engines have been painted, the turbos have been touched up, and the tires are on the wing gears. the interior has begun to get more populated.........since the glass acts more like a prism, than real windows, I didn't go to great lengths with the figures. I don't think this will matter. the top and bottom turrets have their own problems.........looking at how they are assembled, it's hard to figure out how they are assembled in the first place {Lindberg's enigma}. I thought there was glass for the mid ship ports, but there isn't.......another make do moment I hope I have a better time with the Revell B 25..........when I get to it. the wheels look good tucked into the wings. ....and the added detail.......it's minor really ......... I was in the process of adding the yellow tips on the props, to finish the cowl assembly, when the admiral asked me if I wanted to walk with her and Gibbs. so.....that's where I left off at this time. I still don't have the decals..........I'm hoping tomorrow. there's still more to do, and I really don't want to use the supplied decals until I know how much of a scale difference there will be. I should have more to add tomorrow..........

the PT boat is 1:30 scale....equates to about 33 inches long. cripes.......the Nordkap and the Progress are 32 inches long, and they are 1:50 scale. it's right up my alley I've been wanting to build one of their kits anyway, so I had better hurry if I want it. I did pick up the Revell PT 109 kit.....small kit at 1:72 scale. I also picked up a 1:48 scale Spad VIII by Glencoe.........never built a model by this company before, so it should be interesting. I really didn't notice what the model was.......I just saw the name and it clicked, since I had never heard of them, until you started this project. I saw a couple other names I hadn't heard of before.......if an when I go back, I'll gather some intel "they're always watching....."

the admiral likes to feed the birds....of course, it attracts the squirrels and chipmunks. we get regular visits from hawks..........one day the admiral got a treat when one landed in the nearby tree.. -
....very kind offer on the flash, but Lindberg keeps me plenty busy project is look'in really good! nice job on the paint.........plenty of nooks and crannies I'll bet my son showed me where HobbyTown had moved to and I saw a few Atlantis kits while I was browsing....settled on a couple small kits while I was there. I bought some paints too. I might be going back though, because I saw a Dumas kit of the PT 109 that was reasonably priced. not much else tickled my fancy........they seem to have gone downhill since the move. the owner is more into R/C cars and planes look'in really super!

it's always the scary part Pete........scuppers and ports. having to cut into the bulwarks .......it is for me anyway the deck looks great.......very nice color.......windlass looks really good too. I like the way you did that I have a break down of the poem Tam 'o Shanter, by R. Burns. looking at the history of the Cutty Sark, I'm not sure if Capt. Willis named her because he liken the poem, of if it was because the fellow who originally made the figurehead followed the premise. there were other carvings of scantily clad witches along the bow, but Willis had them removed for 'good taste' reasons.

absolutely fabulous progress Johnathan! the rat lines look superb! she's coming along splendidly! I saw one on oldmodelkits.com which has the deck and upgrades included....going for $365.00! I believe though that Revell / Germany has reissued the kit, along with a few others. I as well would like a second stab at her, but then reality sets in, and I may never get to with all the projects I have. as of right now, I'm set till well into my afterlife! she's look'in great........kudos to you!

not much going on this week.........I have been under the weather. who would have though I'd get a cold this soon...........not like I sleep with my feel hang'in out the winda!! I have done a few things though.......glued the wing halves together and paint.....I'll post pictures later. I'm still waiting for the decals........I ordered them from France. 1001 model kits........has anyone used them before? well errand time........but first, my son Kevin is going to show me where HobbyTown moved to. I tried to find them one day and couldn't .......don't know Londonderry that well. I've got paints in mind, but who knows

they have this at oldmodelkits.com sorry I haven't been 'round.....copped a nasty cold during my work week getting back up to speed though...I feel better the pad looks super........and yea........if there was some PE involved, it would enhance it greatly. there used to be a big push for these missile models.......cripe, between Aurora, Revell, Monogram and Strombecker, there were quite a few kits. are you going to make a base for it? a sheet of 1/16 or 1/8 plastic should do the trick

I went through a space stage when I was young.........had the capsule and the LEM. later buying the kit that had them both........they could be done docked together. I had to do a report on the moon landing at school......got in big trouble when I failed to produce it when it was due. long story { my parents were brought into it }........ended up with a poor grade and I still had to do it. not a happy time haven't heard of the company.......is it a fairly new release?

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
