  1. do you go over the silver with a clear coat? gotta hate the fingerprint issue with metallic paint. the sheen issue is a hard one......some photos of aircraft look shiny, and some look dull. probably the best solution would be to meet it in the middle flat silver with a semi gloss clear coat.........or you could go the other way around. ....some ghosting at the cowl.......are you going to do an olive drab top?
  2. good to see another loco being built.......this is going to look awesome! superb start so far really nice job on your loco Gene........looks good with the red undercarriage.
  3. oh.....that's what was missing...............decals! awesome job Craig! it's a very detailed kit.
  4. I'm in...........the cockpit looks awesome!
  5. thank you Gene1 and welcome to the community glad to be of help any way I can.......just PM me and I'll give you my email address. thanks to every one who've recently looked at the General....it was a really fun project and I had a great time building him there are a couple to things to watch out for though, and I hope I showed a good remedy for them. one thing to remember.......the cab interior is green by all means.....start a log so we all can view you progress....I'm sure I can speak for all.........we love eye candy! I'm the same way shotlocker........every time I see something interestingly different, my mind starts to wander. if I don't catch myself, I could end up on another journey anything that lands on the table is fair game
  6. what I've done to get a smooth hull is through the use of resin. a couple coats and some sanding should get her to a smooth finish. I didn't even use the cheese cloth.........I figured that the mesh would show though. looks super
  7. ohhhh .......I didn't even notice that the transporter had tires as well! I looked back at the previous pictures, and I can just make them out. now it makes sense
  8. I never gave heat a thought........I've not heard of this technique, but it sounds like something neat to try. thanks gents! I also have a small scale P 47 thunderbolt that needs a canopy
  9. experimenting with clear cello to fill in those windows is proving to be a bust..........if I bend it enough, a white stress line develops perhaps it's due to the thickness.........I have different thicknesses of it....I'll try some thinner stuff I have plenty of time.........trouble in decal land.........I emailed them and they replied that the sheet I really need is out of stock they are not sure when they will get them in........so, I decided on a different sheet and am awaiting a reply about it. in all, I will get a sheet of the detail decals and a sheet of the letters and numbers. as for the nose art and main markings, I looked into mega hobby and found that they had a sheet with the nose art and stuff. again.......I stuck with the 1:72 scale decals, since the model is 1:64 scale. comparing the supplied decals with the sheet from the B 25 {which is 1:48}, and I saw that 1:48 would be too large. I wish they would have sent me an email telling me this........it's been a good couple of weeks since I ordered them. anyway......I think I got this straightened out now I wondered about the stabilizer wing and how it would center, without tabs to help it do that. it fit into the slot better than I thought it would.......I was expecting paint scraping and a mess. I ended up painting the deice strip on the rudder freehand.......couldn't get the masking tape to conform to the curves. I need to do some very minor touch ups {luckily}. the yellow tips are painted on the props....... I think I mentioned the wing span of this model earlier in the log. sitting on the table, it looks huge the figures are somewhat hard to see.......still need to install the windshield {it's in two pieces}. installed the props into the cowls...... that is the belly placement....that is what I came up with. for the top gunner, there is a bar that separates the machine guns that the figure is attached to. there is no bar........and no platform for the figure to stand on inside the fuselage. no too much thought process here..........doya think?!/!?! still have plenty of time to figure {pun} it out I need to paint the deice panels on the wings........that should be the last of the major paint. I refuse to change my mind.......kinda hard as I've laid out the paint for the scheme
  10. funny Lou........I had a kitchen light that was shaped like that the all woman space walk is big news........no need to be brave commending these fine astronauts the model looks super........the added color really works for the structure. the thing that looks off though are the rear duals for the tractor and on the silver tanker trailer. the tires seem to stick out too far. wouldn't mention it, but I've been around the darn things too long. it is an impressive model though
  11. that's gonna look nice amazing what on the market today!
  12. they must be removable.....I have some pictures that have them. could also be that these are refurbed aircraft, as in the case of the Nine o Nine, and they were made for them. I think of the waist position as the mid ship..........where I was referring to is back by the rudder. I have no windows for this position. I can live with the absence of glass at the waist gunner position, but I'm thinking of doing something at the tail. I really think there should be glass back there. just a small bit of progress of late..... thanks OC........I still have a bit of a cough, but I'm feeling much better. I did some checking on the decals, and from what I've seen, they are still processing the order. shot off an email to see what the problem is.........I made this order on the 9th of this month thanks for the likes gents........hopefully I'll have more to show later.
  13. been lucky in that respect.......all we've seen so far are possums, skunks, and one appearance by a raccoon. every once in a while, we even get to see turkeys out in the field across the street. but as the squirrels and chippies congregate at the feeders, the hawks come call'in. we know because the Blue Jays sound the alarm!
  14. sounds about right.........I just heard about their recent mission to the space station. probably wouldn't have heard anything at all, if it wasn't manned by women we should expect a model of the space station sooner or later.
  15. I'm eyeing this kit at the 'somewhat' local hobby store really like what I see here. look'in forward in seeing more. did you trim off all the stringers at the stern and cap it over?
  16. call it coincidence...........this afternoon, the admiral was looking out the window, and there was a young hawk sitting on the wires!
  17. ohhh.........be still my heart..... here's a little story for yas......... my son showed me where HobbyTown moved to........sad to say that they aren't fairing well in this new location. they don't have as much as they used to, although the owner is really big on R/C cars and planes and the like. the selection of kits is fair, but the wood kits is dirt poor....only had a few on the shelf. one that he did have is a Dumas PT 109 kit......1:30 scale, so it's a relatively large box! they want $153.00 for it......I checked the Dumas site, and they list it for $195.00....it's quite a deal. now folks, I knew that if I brought this home, the admiral would have hit the roof........bad enough that I picked up my latest model kit on a whim, and I saw the whites of her eyes she knew I was picking up some paints........and she probably figured that I'd come home with something, so I picked up a couple small kits, thinking she wouldn't be too miffed about it. I told her about the Dumas kit....and she didn't even flinch over it.....>what<? so I asked her........you mean you wouldn't have gotten mad if I bought that kit??? she said no...when was the last time she got mad for me buying a kit?!?! wait........did something come loose when I last shook my head? more news on this soon.......definitely worth taking about of late, I have had this nasty cold.......settled in my chest { a really icky bugger too}. took the day off yesterday 'cuz I didn't want to deal with the nonsense at work............the place is gett'in on my nerves💩 today, I feel a bit better.....good enough to get something done on the Nine o Nine. I had done some painting on it previously.......rims on the tires, the figures, guns........other minor stuff. the wings have been assembled, after cementing the landing gear in place......I left them movable, since the tires aren't ready to be put on yet. the exposed turbos under the nacelles were also painted and need to be touched up. the cowls were taken off at this point. I used them to hold the wings together as they dried. the engines will be painted and somewhat detailed. the fuselage also need to get to the point where I can join the two halves together....the glass needs to be installed. not happy with them........they are too thick for one thing, and I also noticed that there isn't any glass for the tail windows. I tried to use the window maker for this, but found that they are too large for the stuff to close up. they also have enough of a curvature, so that trying clear cello might be out of the question {I'm still experimenting}. I did manage to get that side pane into the starboard side { due to the bulkheads}. engines have been painted, the turbos have been touched up, and the tires are on the wing gears. the interior has begun to get more populated.........since the glass acts more like a prism, than real windows, I didn't go to great lengths with the figures. I don't think this will matter. the top and bottom turrets have their own problems.........looking at how they are assembled, it's hard to figure out how they are assembled in the first place {Lindberg's enigma}. I thought there was glass for the mid ship ports, but there isn't.......another make do moment I hope I have a better time with the Revell B 25..........when I get to it. the wheels look good tucked into the wings. ....and the added detail.......it's minor really ......... I was in the process of adding the yellow tips on the props, to finish the cowl assembly, when the admiral asked me if I wanted to walk with her and Gibbs. so.....that's where I left off at this time. I still don't have the decals..........I'm hoping tomorrow. there's still more to do, and I really don't want to use the supplied decals until I know how much of a scale difference there will be. I should have more to add tomorrow..........
  18. the PT boat is 1:30 scale....equates to about 33 inches long. cripes.......the Nordkap and the Progress are 32 inches long, and they are 1:50 scale. it's right up my alley I've been wanting to build one of their kits anyway, so I had better hurry if I want it. I did pick up the Revell PT 109 kit.....small kit at 1:72 scale. I also picked up a 1:48 scale Spad VIII by Glencoe.........never built a model by this company before, so it should be interesting. I really didn't notice what the model was.......I just saw the name and it clicked, since I had never heard of them, until you started this project. I saw a couple other names I hadn't heard of before.......if an when I go back, I'll gather some intel "they're always watching....."
  19. the admiral likes to feed the birds....of course, it attracts the squirrels and chipmunks. we get regular visits from hawks..........one day the admiral got a treat when one landed in the nearby tree..
  20. ....very kind offer on the flash, but Lindberg keeps me plenty busy project is look'in really good! nice job on the paint.........plenty of nooks and crannies I'll bet my son showed me where HobbyTown had moved to and I saw a few Atlantis kits while I was browsing....settled on a couple small kits while I was there. I bought some paints too. I might be going back though, because I saw a Dumas kit of the PT 109 that was reasonably priced. not much else tickled my fancy........they seem to have gone downhill since the move. the owner is more into R/C cars and planes look'in really super!
  21. it's always the scary part Pete........scuppers and ports. having to cut into the bulwarks .......it is for me anyway the deck looks great.......very nice color.......windlass looks really good too. I like the way you did that I have a break down of the poem Tam 'o Shanter, by R. Burns. looking at the history of the Cutty Sark, I'm not sure if Capt. Willis named her because he liken the poem, of if it was because the fellow who originally made the figurehead followed the premise. there were other carvings of scantily clad witches along the bow, but Willis had them removed for 'good taste' reasons.
  22. absolutely fabulous progress Johnathan! the rat lines look superb! she's coming along splendidly! I saw one on oldmodelkits.com which has the deck and upgrades included....going for $365.00! I believe though that Revell / Germany has reissued the kit, along with a few others. I as well would like a second stab at her, but then reality sets in, and I may never get to with all the projects I have. as of right now, I'm set till well into my afterlife! she's look'in great........kudos to you!
