popeye the sailor got a reaction from Ferit in Gothenborg by Popeye the sailor - Billing Boats - 1:100 scale
hopefully, your still around Andy, so you can see these. they are not much....but I have taken the masts out from time to time, to do a bit on them. so, to recap.....I did get the dead eyes.
since I have all of these dead eyes now......I began to arrange them in the tops.
I'm still having to redrill all the holes for spacing........I have no idea where they got their measurements from. I will need to take account of the double blocks........I did use a few for the AmericA build. I do have a bunch of those triple blocks though.......they might look better for the lower yards. if not, I can modify them.
the anchors are almost ready......a bit more shaping, and then paint.
the masts all in place.......just a dry fit... and, of course, as I mentioned, the broken railing has been replaced.
I still need to do a bit more at the stern....moldings are sorely needed here. I am thinking.....that's a good sign. I'm going to remove that bit of bow rigging too.......it's badly done, and it looks different in the pictures. I won't get every line on her......but I will make her as busy as I can

Popeye, neither can I..... But I'm going to have to wait like the rest of you
Robbyn, it's all in understanding what each piece of rigging is trying to achieve, and then trying to emulate it. Know your knots and splices, or at least how to fake them (more important for splices at this scale).
For example, I made the seizings above the deadeyes by simply tying a clove hitch and turning it in. I subsequently added just one more half hitch to give the seizing some depth. Nothing really fancy, and maybe not correct if you ask the militant purists.... But I'll leave that for posterity to judge
Mark, you guys and gals are all good for the ego, but I won't let it get to my head. Honestly all these positive remarks are very flattering, and I hope I continue to measure up.
This past month has been a real adventure, from the masting, to the start of the standing rigging. I'm always amazed looking back, how much I've accomplished. I just wish I could work on her all the time.... But I'm not made of money and I have to work for a few more years yet.

I've seen what laser cutting does to plywood Yambo........there have been times where I threw these parts out and planked it.....makes it so much easier. if it wasn't for the scuppers {preformed}.......I would have done so. I have a multi build coming up....I will make them out of basswood......it will make them easier, and I can position the scuppers where I want to........that pesky 2mm will not haunt me again....... bwaaaaahaaaaa! thanks for looking in
your like me Sjors.........a poor working stiff!

I'm finding that's true. I find from time to time that for being a patience bottle builder I sure don't have enough patience.
They have just about sent me over the brink. I got them all done yesterday and not a day to soon.
I wouldn't say I'm beating my self up so much as i am tired of work and the drama lama's of work. Makes it worse when I get home get the kiddo's to bed and then am to tired to build. Things are looking up though. Another month and I'll have things where they want them and then I think I'll take a week off.

I've soaked thin plywood loads of times Popeye with no problems. If it does de-laminate though I'd simply stick some glue in the gap and clamp it. My Skerry shown on the 'Latest full profile . . ' is nearly all plywood and all of the side panels were soaked in hot water without a problem.

take the stocks off the anchors and flip them over......is that what you mean John?
yes Andy........I can't wait to start rigging........you folks are having so much fun.....I want to go crazy too!
thanks Mark....rigging soon .....Yepper!

talk about being late for a party or what! hard to believe how fast the site has grown........so many new folks and their builds! came across your build and took a looky.........looks all neat and tidy.......really nice job! too bad about the rigging thread.....I'm not too big a fan of kit supplied thread either. I have a whole bag full of Billing rigging thread.....just figured out what to do about staining it for the standing rigging. I tend to go walkabout for mine....found quite a bit in my travels. the ratlines you've done already look really good.....I hope the thread you get is simular to it. nice job Robbyn

Mobbisie,
If you're doing "overlap", then the direction of plating is pretty much set in stone... If you're not doing overlap, I think that decision is all yours.

Good morning all,
Hello Augie, Johann and Daniel, thanks for looking in and for the kind words.
as advised, I am posting some more pictures related to the tower searchlight construction.
Here goes:
Some scale plans of the 160cm searchlight taken from the "Anatomy of the ship - Bismarck".
Due to the fact that I shall be needing 5 of these assemblies, I made a simple cardboard jig, to ensure the same measurements for both the support arms and the support foot.
The first set of support arms needed for the searchlight housing.
The support duckfoot, which supports both the arms and the searchlight housing.
Shall be posting more pictures next week.
