thanks Lawrence the deck planking was a lot of work an di did make a mistake which I was able to cover up . the wire I used was the smallest they had in the store and as I am not an expert I thought its better to have it thicker then necessary. if I do lights in the future I will be looking more at some of the other options like optic fibre . anything to not have to solder too much lol thanks Popeye thanks Robbyn recently I did some searching for Tblacks scratch build of the vinal haven. he needed a eagle statue. I found some railroad websites and find out HO scale is pretty close to the scale of this ship. so maybe, once I got some budget again, I ll see if there are some figures and horses I can find for her

thanks Rick from what I have seen so far of your build Rick it will be even better and the working paddle wheel is awesome ok the daily update pictures : railings are done on one side I have also added the capstan this pictures shows more clearly the 2 breaking points above the deck and less visible the break I fixed before the mast was put in place but I have good news. OcCre has put a whole extra dowel in of the correct size in the GF kit. a try with some of the oak stain I have cam out ok. not completely the same color but close enough so tomorrow I will make the new one : tapered and stained before I ll rip the other one out (just in case I change my mind) what is left once that is done: - railings on one side - rig the mast with the gangplank (which is already constructed) - inspect all the railings and triangles and touch up any spots unpainted - varnish the railings, masts and gangplank - and finally hoist the flag

good progress today with the railings and the cabling I think I will only just get by with the supplied white 0.15 thread for the cabling. which meant there wasn't enough because I would also needed it for the little bit of rigging. for that I used some tan thread from the GF kit

hello Dragzz look at this picture the back off deck 2 and 3 need to be right above each other when you fit the 3rd deck on top of the 2nd deck stateroom with the pre cut slots you will notice that the 3rd deck doesn't line up at the back and is a bit forward. if you adjust the pre cut slots till the decks are equal at the back you will see that the 2 holes for the smoke stacks will line up too as will the holes for the slanted poles

dragzz , i remember at first ,like you thinking the holes wherent lined up but its actualy the hole top deck that needs to move if you get the full scale plan you ll see that at the back end the 2 decks shoulc be directly above eachother so that the poles are verticaly in my kit they didnt and i had to cut the slots of that deck so it will slide backward a bit. when you do that the 2 holes for the steam stack will line up when i am home i ll see if i can dig up some pictures thta show what i mean

SS Vinal Haven by TBlack - FINISHED
Adrieke replied to TBlack's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1851 - 1900
Tom i found some eagles HO scale at this site http://www.musketminiatures.com/ it says they make the detaqils themselves , so might be an idea to contact them and see what they got in your scale also found this topic on a railroad forum on how to make your own eagle in HO and O scale with a parts template http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21628- 326 replies

the steam stacks have been installed and I am now working on the reinforcement cables you can see the mast has got some masking tape around it. this is because I have now broken that mast 5 times in 3 different places I have no dowels left what I might do is check if I have plenty of dowels from the GF. I would need to remake the 3 parts as these dowels are a different color

thanks Popeye and yes both sides thanks dragzz thanks wackowolf I have some oak stain. tried it out on the support brackets of the shelf thanks Mobsie I am thinking of buying a glass cabinet with glass shelves, because although expensive will be less in price then if I buy/make cases for each model individual. but if I would put her in a case It would have its own bottom board sudomekh , the pedestals I got are the largest ones available.
-
today I went to the store to get the board and screws when I came home I realised I had gotten not the 290mm wide board but the 190mm one but it turned out ok since the width of the hull itself is only 150mm (260mm must be with the yards sticking out) what I will need to do is round off one edge (since this is a shelf it is not bevelled on the wall side) and then figure out if I am going to stain it or just varnish what do you guys think : i noticed before that the 4 bulwark sections didn't fit all the way to the deck level. so i cut off about 2 mm at the top to fit in a replacement plank only need to paint the inside of it white again
