  1. Welcome aboard for the voyage!
  2. Can you find a suitable color of bronze in an automotive spray paint department? If the result is too bright, weathering agents can tone it down or modify it.
  3. I think part of the issue you have is that you overlapped most of the planks instead of edge-butting them for this model. What do the instructions say?
  4. Lovely precision soldering. The offset rudderhead seems rather strange, though.
  5. Strange. We see so many posts about damaged models and on repairing them instead of taking a perfectly good model and wrecking it deliberately!
  6. I once built a desk from padauk. That crumbly orange-red dust gets everywhere! However, isn't the perfumed scent when you cut it wonderful? I wonder how much detail it will hold, as the grain is not particularly fine. Seasons greetings to you and yours.
  7. All of the above. Also, there is the question of safety when cutting stock of small dimension. However, the biggest advantages are that less wood ends up as sawdust and finer control of thickness.
  8. One can re-wet the area of the starboard bow and mold the plank back to shape. To level the sheer, consider ungluing the bow end of the plank and regluing in correct alignment.
  9. Presumably the wire is flattened first to widen it. Anneal to soften the metal, then centermark and drill.
  10. In the old days you had to be either short or tall - nothing between! Three stretcher positions are a positive luxury.
  11. Great progress, Sal. Nice solution to making and installing the stay tackle. I'd caution you about using CA on rigging, though. Eventually it make the lines brittle and they will fail. Use either PVA (white glue) or acrylic matt medium.
  12. Not too dissimilar to my Meccano ropewalk! However, mine is powered by a superannuated (and noisy) electric drill. Lovely work on the hull and spars, Michael.
  13. Well done! Not only have you gained valuable experience, but three very nice models as well. At some point you might wish to protect your models from dust and inquisitive fingers with cases.
  14. Lovely work, as always. I note the issue of the sides aft spreading a little (post #1102). I have had this problem with framed models as well. In one case I had to install three threaded rods permanently across under the poop deck level with the beams, the nuts concealed under the outer planking and friezes. Best wishes for the holiday season to yourself and the ship's cat!
