  1. Thanks, Bob, I appreciate the kind words! Are you making any progress on your Pen Duick? Don
  2. Thanks, Chuck, I appreciate it. Also look forward to getting the guns installed that I ordered last week - they got stuck for over a week in a usps facility somewhere in your part of the world but are finally on the way and I should get them in the next day or so. Thanks again, Don
  3. Quick update - per Chucks recommendation, I have applied some dullcoat to reduce some of the shineyness. Don
  4. Bob, am sorry to hear about your health issues and wish you a speedy recovery. I’ve really enjoyed your log and have used it as a reference on a regular basis- I look forward to seeing what comes next. Don
  5. Mark, that’s beautiful and so precise! Extraordinary work! Don
  6. Thanks, Chuck, I appreciate it. Yes, it is and I’ve got a plan to tone it down a bit - stay tuned. Don
  7. Almost finished with Chapter 10, just ordered the guns from Syren and still need to add some eyebolts and split rings but moving along………… Don
  8. I’ve been working on Chapter 9 for a while and it’s been a bit of a struggle. It turns out that my fairing left the bow about 3mm out of whack port to starboard resulting in the planking not covering symmetrically and poorly fitting rails. I’ve tried to compensate by adding an extra plank in the center and, to the casual observer, it looks ok, and was able to bend the rails enough to get them in place. A bit of advise to folks not quite so far along, take Chuck’s advise on making things fair and square early in the build seriously! I’ve found a source for square wire for the spanshackles on Amazon and need to make some more eyebolts to finish things up. Here’s a few pics……… Don
  9. My comment was that you’re showing us how it should be done. I’ve only rigged a couple and may go back and redo them based on how good yours look - thanks! Don
  10. JJ, I used the Craftysailor hooks on mine and they look great. Don’t remember which size, but just picked the one that looked like the proper scale. Your build looks really nice! Don
  11. Brilliant, just brilliant, Brian. I do a lot of work with youth groups and a big part of the training we do is knowing and using resources - this is a textbook example, thanks for sharing. Don
  12. Looks great, Bob! I’m about a month behind you and got all the parts for Chapter 9 a couple of weeks ago but have been working on another project. I appreciate your comments on fairing issues early in the build and the problems they create at this stage - I have some of my own to work out and Chucks right, not a whole lot of wiggle room. Anyway, you’ve done a great job, I hope mine comes out half as good! Don
  13. Bob, nice to see you back at work on your beautiful model! Don
  14. Will, that looks really nice, I’m very much enjoying your log! I’ve used the Tamiya flexible tape on both wood and plastic with good results and recommend that you give it a try - I think you’ll like it. Don
