Still some frames are missing at the extreme fore and aft.
    Fore ones are now cut.

On the last picture, a wide angle lens was used at 12 mm. This lens lenses allows the camera to get very close to a subject! It is a powerful tool for exaggerating depth.

BLACK VIKING reacted to Chuck in Syren 2mm (.080) Scale Rope - Back by overwhelming demand
Back by overwhelming request.  I am re-stocking 2mm scale rope at Syren.  I will make it in all for colors.   Shown below is my 2mm light brown and tan colors.....the bottom photo shows light brown and dark brown.  That is my favorite combination for standing and running rigging.  This is very big rope and its super time-consuming to make.   It is 4 strand rope with each strand also being 4 strand rope.  The 2mm rope is all right hand laid and it is sold in 10 foot lengths per package.  Super crisp.....NO LUMPS.....NO FUZZ!!!  In stock now.

Thank you for requesting this size be resurrected.

    Hi Mates,

Reaching a sort of dilemma. Thinking of also rigging catharpins. So went to my files and saw these two jpg’s. Both of the 1/10th (early and completed versions)

Both have lower catherpins added to main lower shrouds in different forms. So went to Anderson – it seems that the 1/10th (completed) is using an “English design” from the early 1600s. Hmmm??

The Dutch, according to Anderson, did not use these for the lower shrouds, but were limited to only English ships – or so it seems – until later.

Well it would be much extra work (I would rig them English style with the blocks) Looks nicer ha..BUT---

It is Sat – so I will enjoy a Single Malt and think about it for tomorrow, or not....

    Cheers,

Lovely work on the planking. Just a thought you could use a sheet of Perspex with the hull sitting through it with water affect on top and you could see the hull underneath.

Have to agree with the part of Alexey's customer service. I just got his ropewalk machine. He answered my many mails I sent him with questions the same day, I stupidly broke a couple of pieces when assembling it. He immediately sent replacements at no cost other than shipping.

Thank you, Alexey. Good to have you with us!

BLACK VIKING reacted to fnick in Le Mirage by fnick - Corel - 1:75 - wood
    Evening all

I've glued on the wales and the upper boards(?) on the port side. Not having any suitable clamps I basically glued them using super glue for immediate hold on small sections and wood glue for the rest for a longer hold. Unfortunately some of the super glue has seeped out (the dark patches) . Hopefully I wont regret that when I apply the finish (planning to use danish oil at this stage). Of course if anyone has any ideas how to get rid of super glue...

I've also glue all the decks on but that was probably (another) mistake as this will make some of the deck planking and installing of some of the guns more problematic. Oh well lesson learnt for next time.

I also just realised my backdrop isnt best suited for model photography. Think I might invest in some large stiff white card which hopefully should be more suitable.

    Thanks for looking

Hi there Loupy(?), I'm not sure where the kit was made but it was bought two years ago. I did have problems with one of the billets holding the bulkheads, the glue had de-bonded leaving the bulkheads in two pieces. I had that replaced and as for the rest I had replaced most of the wood with my own so I did not have too many issues.

The topgallanr rail is the next.... its parts should be glued on the top of the planking, on the top of the top timber... after this, it should be sanded to the required shape ... the photos show the result of this ...

    Hi Mates,

Update in same area of work. This side took a long time. As you all know it is very repetitive work; now onto the starboard side.
Though I am wanting to go “somewhere else “next. Then realized that the next work bit will be the yards (and the sewing class for the sails) –so more ratlines in my future indeed.

Nonetheless I feel that I have actually really moved forward (for me) though I will never be able to keep up with some “Ferrari Speed” builders here at MSW.
Mates – thanks for kindly still following along.

Photos speak for themselves (what did I learn?) so I won’t add redundant thoughts here J

PS: Thinking of speed my son treated me to this experience last week; BMW Performance Driving School.

Sharing 2 pics. Just shy of 130 mph on the long straightaway parts of the track in a “bells and whistles” equipped M3…
OK back to the 16th Century Ha ha…

    As always, Cheers mates

I just post some pictures so you can see what I mean.
Everything I try was not working.
So I have send OcCre this morning an E-mail with the same pictures.
I'm curious what they are saying about this.
But I think it's gonna be the best way to go to the store and see if I can find some wood of 5 mm thickness.
Then I have to scratch a new keel.
But I will make that then in one piece and not two.
But first I will wait for an answer from OcCre.

    Story continues.....

Everything is dry drift to see how it goes.
At the pictures you can see that there is a warped keel/frame/bulkhead.
I put clamps on it to see if I can get it straight.
When I glue the frames/bulkheads ,maybe I can keep it straight.
I know that the glue I'm using are very strong when it is dry.
    What do you think.

I really don't like when the instructions go "and now do a thing that's not geometrically possible in 3 dimensional space".

Case in point: This little filler to be attached in step 8. AL steps off for a short trip into n-th dimensional space while supposedly showing how to build this filler. None of it makes any sense whatsoever. I thought about sending that page to Stephen Hawking or Michio Kaku for an explanation, but I'd rather they deal with easier stuff like developing a quantum field theory for gravity. I suspect there's a reason why I've not seen this part turn up in any other Mare Nostrum building log ever anywhere.

In any case, I somehow managed to shmorgle it together my way and I never want to hear about this thing again. It breaks my  brain.
