I would definitely ask for a replacement pack Pucko . I know it's only the first planking but its not the quality you should expect

Hi Mates,
Finally installed the mizenmast. As I had previously noted I was going to add bracing pins to mizzen pulley housings.
Have been using this black nylon fishing line with great success for details such as this.
Thought it best to attach upper shrouds - off ship. Seemed much easier using the vice. Won’t have that option with main and foremast Hmmm.
Lower shrouds - I found easy to do
Added a rope wrap at lower mizzenmast. Also satisfied that I pulled out and rebuilt the deck bracing for that mast. My first effort was weak.
A few more general shots
Now onto the upper main, and upper fore bits, at least those parts have been built, and were patiently waiting in line.
This might take me through the Summer 017 ha ha. Then I’ll go back and tightly secure all shroud tensions as well as wrapping deadeye ropes for all three masts.
Cheers

BLACK VIKING reacted to Mike Y in Schooner Polotsk 1777 by Mike Y and his daughter - Master Korabel - 1:72
Thanks Karl! Yes, I am also quite surprised with her passion to building stuff, and trying to feed this passion by showing her different techniques, materials, doing it together, encouraging, etc. No matter what career path she will choose, an engineering mindset will never hurt!
This time she also dictated her first post in the build log. I just translated it to english with minimal syntax corrections:
I am building this ship with my dad. He helps me, but I build it myself. I am a Daughter Daria.
We are making a ship body (hull). I am gluing the parts:
This is the center of the ship, I insert the parts here:
And remove an extra glue with a stick:
We used clamps to help the glue stick parts together:
I also made some wooden things with a file. These things are now inside the ship.
Here we glued the deck. It was hard to fit all that parts at the same time!
Our ship will be big! With a long masts and big sails. We will ship some things, food, paintings and curtains on it, as well as toys and doll stuff.

Yeah...it was!
Had to remove the waterproof ink again, because it wasn't that waterproof after all.
Marked with a pencil instead. I painted the white first and the dark grey outline after that.
Finished!

Today I worked from 9 until 7, so I didn't had much shipyard time, but....
No skin left on the tip of my index finger...time to do something else tomorrow....
The Caesar Miniatures 1:72 scale hoplites....
Again...only 1 or 2 needed...and perhaps a single shield on the railing somewhere behind one of the steering oars.
Not even sure I'll fix them to the deck....to be decided.
The quality is pretty good. Fairly hard plastic (that's a good thing) and minimal flash. Good details and historical correct. The seperate shields are neat, but I'll replace the spears with scratch build ones. I'll remove the bases and glue them on very thin acetate sheet. When one goes on the deck...I'll remove the base and pin it.
So...tomorrow I'll take a closer look and see what I can do with them.
More soon,
Robin

Hi Mates,
Patrick _ Thanks I do, in fact, have those plans AND never saw the fid there either. Nice bit of detailing on the part of Billings.
=========================
Mizenmast bits have all been put together. Some general pics….
A few personal quibbles;
Lower cap is too close to platform and prob. a bit too big,
Flag mast is too thick. hmmm
Will now attach upper mast shrouds to deadeyes and do ratlines as well before attaching mast to deck. Will add some of those bracing pins as noted in photo.
And, as always, thanks for the likes, helpful advice and just dropping by – always so appreciated.
Cheers,

This is what I do at work:
Renovation, can't remember what make this is but it's from San Fransisco
This is an original Garwood from '46:
And this is my scratchbuild:
Glen's Monte Carlo.
We hope it will look like this next summer:
So the last thing I want to do at my job is build model ships....

The finished oars after final sanding and staining.
Painted the blade of the "Dusek oar" black. Like the Argo replica oars.
The Olympias has it's teardrop shaped blades painted white. Probably for observation and / or camera visibility purposes. Likely not historical.
Yes....
Well...they're pretty easy to make and I think I can do a batch of 5 in an hour. I'll try to do one batch per day..on the side.
Tomorrow I'll start with attaching the 3 heart blocks to the top of the mast. My first step in the world of rigging.
More soon,
Robin

Another small update - made up the skid beams for the ship`s boat using 2x2 & 2x3mm lumber,& added gussets at the corners,& glued in place.
After that I drilled & filed the holes in the catheads & glued them in place. Still waiting for some small blocks to arrive so I can get the rest of the guns in place on those upper decks.

Hi Mates,
Took some time, and now getting back to the yard. Here is a minor update (as mine seem to always be) so still working on the mizenmast putting the bits together;
••Fiddle blocks for mainstays (amazing how long these small bits actually take to put together) – nothing new here you have all certainly thought the same thing working on your builds—
••Lower cap along with its release clasp metal bits- done
••Completed the lower platform
••Finished the lower mast as well
So now - onto installing everything Hmmm….
PS: those two locking pins will be cut to proper size (:-)
Cheers

Good question Vic. I'm surprised I didn't address this way back when I created those little shingles.
Best pic I have found to explain is of the belfry top seen below....
Rather than cut each shingle individually, each row is cut and shaped as a single narrow strip of black vinyl, shaped with the individual tabs along the bottom edge. The tips of each shingle is painted with gold metallic enamel prior to gluing in place, staggering the shaped edges to give the illusion of individual shingles.
Hope this helps.

Thanks guys!
Busy with the centre deck railing.
The plan....
Where it will happen...
What happened today (so far)....
This took me 6 hours! For one side only.
Much of it was measuring. The short posts all have the same lenght, but the long ones, I had to measure one by one.
I don't own a milling table (yet ), so it took time to cut all the recesses with a fresh X-acto blade.
The cap rail will be stained with "cherry" (or Hennessy for intimi) wood stain. The rest oak wood stain.
I'll do that tonight and perhaps there's time left to start putting it together.
So, maybe another update late tonight...otherwise tomorrow. Will also show the oars with the wider blades...straight and teardrop.
Sooooo....more soon,
Robin
