    First attempt to test fit base in globe neck resulted in the first one breaking at the neck.

    First thing I did was to make a folding wood disc for a label that will be seen from the bottom. I glued paper to shaped wood pieces so it will fold up & fit through the opening.

    This is a ship in a glass Christmas bulb ornament. I started it last year & had so many problems. The glass bulbs are many so thin they kept breaking on me. I went through 6 bulbs & two years before it worked out. It is already complete. This is being posted after it was done because I didn't know if it would ever work out or not.     After making the jig somehow glue flowed in & filled one of the small openings that the copper strips slide through. Didn't want to tear it apart & rebuild it so I tried to figure out a way to cut out the opening again. I found this old underwire from a bra I saved out of the dryer a long time ago ( you never know what use you might come up for stuff later on). I filed one end to a very sharp chisel edge. Jabbed it in over & over till it cut through. Worked pretty good! I've noticed that a large majority of my pics have a pinkish hue to them. I've got to do something different with my lighting. I'm using an old aquarium light over my work bench. The old bulb must be emitting more of the red light spectrum. It isn't as noticeable to the eye but the camera picks it up too much.

    Thanks George & Sal. Ken, I actually just used a small triangle needle file. Did it by hand.

    I agree with Patrick & George. The cradle looks great to me!

    Got all those nicks in the sides filled in & re-painted. Glued waterways in place. The deck got 2 thin coats of golden oak stain.

    Sanded waterways to the right shape.

    I have painted thin wire next to wood with the tip of a toothpick but the solution mentioned by Hans & Peter might be better.

    That looks better Robb. I went & looked at mine when you asked about that & to my shock my port side anchor is missing! It came off the ring somehow. When I get/make a new anchor I will probably re-do mine like you just did. Jeese

    You are right Brian. We try to make our models so "perfect" but that's not how it is in real life. Ropes aren't perfect, Decks, rails or anything wood has wear, cuts, nicks, etc. I no longer try to get mine so perfect anymore. Little imperfections add character & looks more realistic!
