  1. Hello Matti, Happy Birthday and Congratulations to your 40th Anniversary. Welcome to the Club. by the way, you are building a beatiful ship!
  2. Hi Henry, your Details are admirable. I have the same kit on the shelf for many years now after getting it for a Christmas present. With respect for the fine Details and the small scale I never touched it so far but I will follow your build with interest as the Soleil is a beatiful ship.
  3. While waiting on the glue to cure for the first planking I did some scratch build on the main and fore hatch. Size and Position on deck of both of them have been changed according the decklayout of the AoTs. The coamings are made from pearwood, lids are walnut. Both of them have received e finish of two coats of a stuff called Topoil which is originally made to protect wooden kitchen stuff. I like this oil because it darkens the wood a little bit and gives a matt look to the surfaces. The ironworks like rings, hinges and handles will be added at a later stage.
  4. Thanks Steve, Greg and Slog, the carriages and swivel guns are fine, the only issue are the barrels. I will replace them later on as I haven't reached the Point to construct the guns yet. Thank you for your advise, I will check out both of your buildlogs not only for the guns.I'am following your builds already, great stuff.
  5. Thank you Steve for the correct Dimension, so I guess to have a look around for replacement.
  6. Hi Nenad, think twice about your decision to start again. Dumping a model means to dump all the efforts and hours spend on it, I do know from experience that mostly always something can be done to prevent the final step.
  7. Hi Mick, just went trough your buildlog, you are way far ahead of mine. You are doing a great Job, keep going as I will keep an eye on your ship.
  8. Hi all, planking continues, but while going trough the parts of the kit again I have discovered something strange I didn't realize when opening the kit last year. The cannon barrels, the ones supplied in the kit are totally oversized. The lenght of them is 45mm, converted to real size at this scale makes something around 3,5 meter. I can't imagine the Endeavour was equiped with cannons that big. Is anybody building this kit facing the same Problem?
  9. Hi Mick, I had a short a sneak on your build, the kits are quite different indeed. I guess we try to make the best out of it as the result should be more or less the same. Thanks for stopping by.
  10. Next Planks are prepared, I pull them trough the thickness sander in order to have a equal thickness of the Planks followed by watering and prebending.
  11. After putting my Bounty build on hold I was looking for a Substitute. I have launched the build about 1 year ago, stopped it to finish with my RC stuff. I assume it is a good time now to continue, even though there are a few builds of the Endeavour going on in the Forum I would like to post my build as well. My plan is to convert the kit to the Details of the AotS book by K.H. Marquardt. Here is the actual Status on how I pulled the kit off the shelf. Next is to continue the first planking.
  12. Yes Nigel, the dividing table fits perfectly in either direction as well as vertically or horizontally into the table slots. Additionally I'am using a homemade jig to sand or profile the stripwood.
  13. Hi Nigel, I'am using my MF70 for several applications and I'am always very happy with the results and handling. Even though I have a bigger drill and milling machine mostly the smaller Proxxon fits better for the Job. I would say the Proxxon is the right choice for what we are using it for.
  14. Still waiting for the timber set, found out that the bottleneck is the laser cut stuff. It is still no confirmed shiping date announced yet Although I'am looking forward to build this kit I have now reached the Point to put this buildlog on hold.
  15. Hi Pierre, I have checked on the AotS Book of the Endeavour, the futtock staves are on the inside (mastside), you are right.
  16. Hi Matke, Welcome to MSW! To answer your questions, first of all I would say the first planking is not ready yet to receive the second planking. It seems that you still have too much filler on it. Bear in mind, any mistakes or bumps in the first planking can't be corrected with the second planking. The line of the whales is the point to start with the second planking. Transfer the position of whales onto the hull, that's the point to start. I'am pretty sure other, more experienced builders in the forum do have more and even better advices for you.
  17. Yesterday I have been informed by Lumberyard that it takes at least another two weeks to get my timber set on the road. As I have decided to wait on the Hahn plans to continue with the ship boat I give a shot on the four 4 Pounder cannons. I have started to shape a pearwood block to the outside dimension in oerder to receive the carriage brackets. On the milling machine first thing was the axle receptions followed by the final shaping. Cutting to the required thickness worked very well on the table saw. So far I'am pretty happy with the result (except for the quality of the photos). Well,I guess there is some room for improvement.
  18. Hi Nenad, that sounds and looks pretty nice, like you a few days ago I'am siiting outside in the heat but having a nice b??? instead! By the way, the Cutty is coming out pretty nice, go ahead.
  19. Tanks Nenad and Ian, while waiting on the Timber set I have already spend some time on the construction of the ships boat, the 23' Launch. Beside the H. Hahn plans of the Bounty, coming with the timber, I will use the AoTS book by J. McKay as reference for the build. After copy the drawings to the correct scale I have started on the keel, stem and sternpost.
  20. Hi Mark, I went trough Vol. 1 and 2 of the Books "The 74 gun ship" by Jean Boudriot. I can't find no contoured chain wales or sheer Planks on this French ship, all square. Gun port linings doesn't exist either.
  21. Dear Fellows, after following this great community for many years I would like to start my first buildlog now. After reading plenty of books and other different buildlogs I have decided to start my first scratch build on the Bounty. I have just ordered (and can't wait to receive it) the Lumberyard cherry timber set to start with. I like the Harold Hahn method as it seems not to be that difficult as other builds I have seen. Anyway, your comments are highly appreciated.
  22. Volume II finally made it to Germany, just arrived yesterday. Great work, thanks a lot Allan and Wayne!
  23. Hi Gil, I'am glad that you are back. I used to follow your Victory on the old MSW as your buildlog is always a treasure trove for inspirations and great ideas. Thank you!!
