Hello Pops. I love your build. I am the guy who gave Bob F. the glass plate. At the time I was working for an Auto Glass company. The glass is just a scrape piece of Laminated plate glass used for old car windows. I am sure if you go to any good Auto Glass Company in your area you can get a piece in the size you want. For our club meeting I just cut up some scrape glass into 6" to 8" squares. They might just give you a scrape piece. One of the best uses for the glass is for gluing. I just put some of the CA on the glass, dip a pin in the glue and put a dot where I want the glue to be. Then when the glue has dried, I just scrape the old glue off with a razor blade and it is ready to go again. Happy modeling

Just thought I would bring all up to date on my Conny. I took some time off from modeling to get some stuff done. That being done I am now ready to get back to my rigging. Not a whole lot of pictures to show when all you are doing is making rope with my Jim Byrnes Ropewalk. I am almost finished with my Mast sub assemblies. I have all line done for the Foremast and Mainmast and am now working on the Mizzenmast. Using the Byrnes rope walk has given me the chance to make the rope in many different sizes and I am quite happy with the results. The only problem I have had with the Conny is that there is a lot of line . I really mean a lot of line. Once I have finished the Mizzenmast I will post some pictures of where I am at.

Looks like you are off to a great start Jay. I am still making rope and figuring all the rigging out. I did take some time off this winter but am getting back to rigging the Conny. will post some pictures soon. I really like your new toy the mill.

Jay great to see you back at it. I too have been off for some Honey do stuff and the holidays. I hope to get back at it in Feb. Nice and cold in Northern Illinois and that makes modeling an easy choice. Sorry you found some hick ups. But if you don't address them now you every time you look at the Conny, you will be reminded. The fixes are looking good. Keep tying knots and making sawdust.

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
