Porsche 934 restoration by kpnuts 1/12 Tamiya
mtaylor replied to kpnuts's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
If it weren't for the background, I would sworn it was the real thing. -
Brian, might be better if you buy your own Cricut. There's a fine line out there on using the wife's stuff.
-
I take it you are enjoying all this, right? I hope..... Your games remind me of the old Avalon Hill games... many an long weekend of wargaming back in the day. The printing is looking good.

My metal ruler was wrong.
mtaylor replied to modeller_masa's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Sounds like this all is the moral equivalent of "Measure with a laser interferometer, mark with a piece of chalk, and cut with an axe". Except that the laser is out of calibration. Seriously, what level of accuracy do we need? This isn't rocket science. To me the question is "how accurate do you need to be when measuring?". Sometimes, especially with wood models, the best we can do is "close" when measuring since most of us cut, then sand/file to fit. -
Your New "cautionary tale" posterchild here!

Welcome to MSW, Valkyrja68. Feel free to ask all the questions you want as we enjoy helping other modelers. As you find your way around this place, we do have areas set aside for just about everything. -
Sweet looking models. And yes, I cheated and looked closely.

Your heavy research and some luck (the TV program) are really paying off. BTW, soldering aluminum isn't easy.... seriously. You might have had better luck with brass. OTH, the styrene is working extremely well.

I just checked. They're part of NATO and not sanctioned, so that's good. Hopefully it just something like he's taking some time off.

Are you heat bending the plank? That will help. I see several issues with your picture. One is that first 4 bulkheads are "over" faired. There's very little of the bulkhead making contact with the plank. The other is, the plank at the bow also has very little on the end for gluing. You probably should fill in the areas between those first bulkhead include the area between the first one and bow. This will give you more to glue and hold the planks. Use basswood as it's easy to shape yet strong enough to hold unlike balsa. I hope this helps.

What country is he in? That's question as with the sanctions, etc. some places are blocked.

Hi Mary and welcome to MSW. My condolences on the loss of your dad and mentor. As advised previously, start a log on any of your projects. It's a great way to meet other modelers and also get help.
-
I just found this log and about all I can say is "Wow... incredible work" and one really can't tell this is card as it looks like wood.

Welcome to MSW, Amphibette. I do suggest you start a build log in the kit area as it's a great way to meet others and also get help.
-
You too? I'm hoping Greg will do a book on how he does it.

Nice work dealing with the mystical resin printing, Jerry. And great to see you back. I was beginning to wonder if something happened.

A link to the picture/text takes you to the posting site... thus, you're seeing the original work.

Looking at the photos you've posted, there's a couple with a "give away". The biggest one is that the items between the stacks aren't the same tones as the stacks themselves. Too black, too sharp, and the supporting lines between the stacks holding up the symbols are not the same. As far as "help" on this, I'm not sure if any of the museums in St Louis have any photo experts. I would think one of them would since as I recall from when I lived there they did have lots of old photos about. But those folks have probably long since retired. You might try reaching out to the Smithsonian. A long shot but they might have someone who could take a look and help.

There was recently... several months ago, discussios here of "fair use" on copyrighted material. Below is just one link. A search using "fair use" in quotes will bring up others. Some in more detail, some in less. -

Basically the question is "Is is a link to something a copyright infringement?" Answer... "no".

The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
