Welcome to MSW. Answers to a couple of questions would help.... which ship? I'm not sure what 0.0115 scale is... do you have the more standard type of scale like 1:48, 1:30, etc.?

Welcome back, Alexander. I'm looking forward to seeing your log on this ship. I just found it... need to go see.

HMCSS Victoria 1855 by BANYAN - 1:72
mtaylor replied to BANYAN's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1851 - 1900
Beautiful work, Pat. Well done. It might be easier to just "fake it" on the clapper rope. Remove the clapper completely and just hang a stiffened rope down.- 993 replies

Air brushing or hand painting... the size still makes my eyes hurt. That is some excellent work in the paint shop, Greg.

Excellent research and result, Pat. Looking at the model at it's current state, I think it'll fit right in to the flavor of the ship.- 993 replies

First rule, Dennis... keep the Admiralty happy. We'll see you when you're done and she's smiling again.

That sounds like a job and a half, OC. I understand about our bodies yelling at us... Mine's been screaming a lot lately. How small is the brush? Not one you use for your figures I hope. Many decades ago I did housepainting but decided it wasn't the career path I wanted. Anyway, the head guy showed me how to use a 4" and 6" wide brush on trip without taping and without splattering paint all over. It's helped me over the years whenever I had to paint a house.

Justifying the purchase of a mill
mtaylor replied to Captain T's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
As for a mill being used as a drill press, the LittleMachineShop has some mills already set up for this. I have the Model 4660 and it has that capability. -
Hank, welcome to MSW. I too will be looking forward to seeing your work so hopefully you will start a build log.

Fascinating. Don't worry about talking too much, it's giving us an education. I am curious about something and maybe I missed the explanation... to the side of the structure at about the same area as the stack is open compartment. Looks like logs or something in there. Can you tell me what is in there? Same for the opening aft.

Hand-made violins by Bitao - FINISHED
mtaylor replied to Bitao's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
Yet another work of art. Inspiring to see what can be done. -
I note the "family critter" bed next to it in the photo. I'll assume that you'll figure out a way to keep said critter out of the case when you have it open.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
