    Ed, obsidean12 gave sound advice on the article. Once you have the basics, buy tools only as you need them. In other words,, no need to jump in buy a table saw, milling machine, etc.

    Now I feel really old. Your dad had them and not you? I used to have a stack of those catalogs. Rule was that when the new one came, the one at the bottom had to hit the trash.

    From where I sit, "blue air" seems normal whether it's CAD or actually working with the wood.

    Don, are both ends of the ship supported? If not, sometimes planking will "warp" things a bit. Both ends should be supported until either internal or external planking and beams are installed.

    Continuing the carvings. Still working on the "Arms of France". As a side thing and maybe to check my sanity (there is a little left it seems) I did the shield for the figurehead. Don't look to hard but in person, the three doodles in the center aren't clear so could pass for three Fleur-de-lis. The center is inset and doodles are standing proud. Now my head hurts.

    I hope the same for you. It's, shall we say, a tad on the warm side here with tomorrow supposedly worst here, around 110 F. Seems like the forecast is changing every few hours. From 2 weeks down to one week now for the heat wave.

    Wecome to MSW, DrK. Do give some thought to opening a build log for your model even though the build is underway. Drop a few photos (if you have them) and some text to bring us up to date. Logs are a great way to get help and also meet other builders.

    After much hair pulling, naughty words, and rending of garments... the leaves are done. I'm going to leave them on the backing for now. Fragile and tiny. I'm happy they're done and will have a (in my opinion) well deserved adult beverage. Tomorrow, I face off with the Arms of France which just above the stern windows. Sorry for the "bad" photo... I'm pushing my limits here on photography also. In person, I they do look better.... maybe it's my lighting. I work on that.

    Given the scale of the model, I think the smaller the rivets, the better. But, that's just me.

    Tony, I think the old saying that "we are our own worst critics" applies here. Beautiful build. I also agree about ANCRE plans as they can be inconsistent depending on when they were done and by whom.

    Good question, Pat. I'm adjusting to the new glasses but I'll keep my options open. My optometrist thinks that in about a year, I'll need lens replacement on my eyes. If I get the surgery before I'm ready to install the tiny bits, I'll re do them. But at least I'll know what I'm doing then. This is still deep learning.

    All I can say at this moment is thanks for the likes and comments. My eyes are crossed and happily the two carvings I'm working will soon be done. They're the smallest. I really don't know how Hubac's Historian can do the carvings he does at that size and with all the detail on his Soleil Royal.
