Man, that is one big model.  I hope you have a crane and a trailer to move it.  It looks fantastic.

I took a somewhat deep dive into their website after reading this review.    I shouldn't have.   Very  tempting to max out the credit card.

    Thank you Ken,
A very good solution is also the ultra glue from MIG. For some strange reason, while I have bought it, I haven't used it!!🤔

Inspired by the success in soldering the handrails to the front plate of the aft bridge, I released the front plate of the fore bridge, which went surprisingly easy.
After repeating the soldering process and roughing up both contact surfaces with a coarse sanding stick, I glued the plate to the front of the bridge again.

Then I filled up the small holes in the sides of the aft bridge, soldered the parts for the booms and glued them with SloZap to the sides.

    Until next update, enjoy modelling.

A couple of assemblies.  The two matched items are lifeboat racks.  The larger one (front and back views shown) is a signal bridge that will be mounted on the stern superstructure.

I have found that it's almost impossible to build these brass assemblies without using accelerator.  Because spray is so undirected and wasteful, I bought an eyedropper bottle and put accelerator in that, and it really works well.

I think I'm reasonably happy with today's results.
I firstly gave the hull another coat of Ljn Gray as the lighter grays underneath looked too light this morning.
Next I started playing with the algae look by adding SMS RAAF Dark Slate which I applied with a hard brush. Then followed this with a larger brush wash with the same paint. I also started on the deck 'timber look' which I intend covering with hair spray and a very dark grey or even black so that I can weather walking areas to show the timber underneath.
I'm not sure, but I think the green and timber look ok.

Are using the plastic blocks or are you going to replace them with wood blocks? If you're going to use wood blocks then it's what you want to see in your model. In real life blocks wore unevenly as some were used more than others and some faded out more than others. Do you want to depict a ship during the course of its career or as she looked right after being built pulling away from the dock?

I stained all the wood blocks I used for the entire build at the same time, all the same walnut color. I figured it was hard enough graduating the sizes correctly let alone trying to depict which blocks would appear more wore and faded.

Hismodel has several hundred dollars of my money for CSS Alabama parts.  The unstained blocks from him look good enough to go.  Just wondering if I took it a step forward to stain a few, hundred.  My build is for learning new ideas.  The hammocks are defiantly getting added.

Frank,  Jonathan replaced the plastic blocks that came with the kit to Syren wood blocks and it doesn't appear that he stained them. You should seriously think about replacing the plastic blocks that came with the kit to wood blocks as they look every so much better.

I am so glad this came to the top of the forum!  This is the model in production in my plastic shipyard.  Just painting the parts now.  Love the hammocks.  You did a superb job.

I bought the accessories  from Hismodel.  Was wondering if you stained all the blocks the same?  Or, did you stain them differently?
Have not read the whole post yet, I will.  How hard was it to put the bulkhead in for the hammocks?

    great job

This fantastic model build of the Alabama by Jonathan is absolutely superb, but boy is it big !

I just wish that someone would produce an accurate plastic kit of the ship but half the size of the Revell one.
There are drawings in Bowcock's book in 192nd scale that would be an ideal size for a kit. Not huge, but still big enough to make a highly detailed impressive model a bit more compatible to display in the average living room.

Various spars/yards shaped. Next is to add hardware and paint. I'm going to join several others that thought the PE fittings for the stun'sl booms didn't look right But on closer inspection it turns out that they're perfect.

A quick update, as I have not had much time to work on this model, due to multiple side activities.

I completed the chimney for the oven. All parts are made of copper tubes and aluminum tubes, soldered and glued together. The shape is inspired from the Anatomy of the Ship book.
