  1. Hi Piet Many thanks for the advice. I'll go shopping this week to see what I can get. Cheers and all the best Patrick
  2. Hi Ben Thanks for the info. I'll need to head off to the Art shops soon! Cheers Patrick
  3. Hi Leo Many thanks for the info on the pencils. What colour would you think is best to use? Maybe a grey'ish colour? Black would stand out too much, I'd think? Any thoughts? Cheers Patrick
  4. Hi Igor Thanks for the info on your sails. But, that bottle of brandy....amazing! Cheers Patrick
  5. Hi Michael Thanks and greatly appreciated. Also....Happy Birthday. 50'ish, I presume? Cheers Patrick
  6. Hi Leo Thanks. I'll give it a go and hopefully it'll look good. The challenge will be to make the lines appear faint enough to be realistic and not too dark that they stand out too much. Trial and error, I guess! Thanks once again. Patrick Cheers and thanks Patrick
  7. Hi Igor Wonderful. Love the seams on the sail. How did you manage to do them? Cheers Patrick
  8. Hello everyone, especially thanks to Lawrence, Nils, Leo-zd and Igor and those who hit the Like button! Nils, thanks for your comments about the interior details. I really enjoyed doing it and the fact that people such as yourself and others on this Forum like it, is deeply satisfying for me. Leo and Igor - thanks for the tips about the sails and sail making techniques. Your Flying Fish model is superb! I'm especially curious as how to best replicate the multi-faceted geometric panels which are so characteristic of modern racing sails such as Rainbow's (see photo below). Do you think drawing them in lightly with a pencil would be ok? If not, what other advice/tips could you suggest? Cheers Patrick
  9. Truly amazing Michael. Poetry in motion is what comes to mind in watching the video, In terms of the wooden base that the motor is often shown sitting on, is it meant to actually sit in the hull, or is it just a temporary mount? The reason I'm asking is that it's so beautifully made as well, that it seems more of a permanent thing. Just curious. Cheers Patrick
  10. Hi Lawrence Thanks for your compliments and question regarding the sails. I usually don't put sails on my ships, but for this one I will be. Igor is kindly sending me some material to use for the sails. I can only hope I can do him justice by not stuffing them up!!! All the best Patrick
  11. Hi everyone A quick update. Before the rigging commences proper, I needed to add a few of the last details whilst access to the deck is still possible. These are, the rear deck hatch (shown in the open position), the foredeck hatch to the focsle (Bob if you're reading this, I finally found the hatch!) and the life raft. The life raft is the funny white rectangle with black lines on it which is located immediately behind the skylight on the mid-deck. Finally, on the mast, I also added the radar dome. I hope you enjoy the photos. Cheers Patrick
  12. Hi Nigel All the best and I hope things will settle down once you've moved. I look forward to when you're able to posts more updates. Cheers Patrick
  13. Hi Ben Many, many posts ago I commented that the hull reminded me of a giant centipede. Now, it doesn't take much imagination to imagine chucking some wheels under the hull and flicking the switch to "On". With all those oars as simulated legs, you'd get a good turn of speed around your lounge room floor! Seriously, though, she sure does look brilliant and, you're right, kinda delicate with the oars in place. Won't be long now before launch day, I'm sure. Cheers and all the best! Patrick
  14. Hi everyone, especially those who hit the Like button! Igor- thanks. Progress is kicking along nicely, that's for sure. Bob- you're right about the huge sail area of the J's. Nothing short of amazing, especially when you consider how narrowly beamed these ships are. I guess that's why they need such deep keels to counteract their huge sail areas. As for the colour of the mast and boom, I did lighten the Aluminium to test to see if it was suitable. It doesn't look too bad now, although, the photos make it appear still a bit darker than in real life. That doesn't mean that I'm not looking at other alternatives, though. For instance, yesterday, (Saturday) I went to Mercedes Benz to look at their paint selection. They only had Iridium Silver (no way would that look good), or Mountain Grey. I'm quite familiar with the Mountain Grey colour because my previous car was in that colour. It was way too dark! I then went to the Hobby Shop and bought a Light Grey paint. I'll experiment with that paint later to see if it looks better. If not, I may just stick with the lightened Aluminium colour. Decisions...decisions...decisions!!! Anyhow, gave a great day, everyone!!! All the best Patrick
  15. Hi Dennis Love everything about your last few updates! The cake - good! The AG - Good! The Monty Python skit - Good! All I can say, is "How are your next ships gonna top this one???" Have a great Easter. Cheers Patrick
  16. Hi Igor I've been itching to see your ship being held between your finger tips, as in the photo above, because, only then, do you get a true indication of it's size. TINY!!! Well done. She looks beautiful. All the best Patrick
  17. Hi Johnny I was wondering how you were going. It looks like you're moving ahead nicely, especially now that you're onto the pilot house. Good luck with the rest of the build, especially as your mother's deadline fast approaches. All the best Patrick
  18. Hi Jond Thanks. No doubt the feedback you would've received from the display, would've been very positive and only served to motivate you even further. Also, I've said it before, but I'll say it again....this is one ship that I can't wait to see underway. Four masted, powerfully built, all sails fully controlled, not to mention, big! All of these ingredients will ensure that your schooner will be a crowd pleaser on the water. Well done and Happy Easter. Cheers Patrick
  19. Hi everyone! Thanks for all your comments and feedback. Greatly appreciated! The latest update and photos shows that I've made some progress with the bit I hate the most....rigging. Some of the deck hardware, eg blocks, etc have been installed and I've made some attempts to run some rigging through them in order to see how they'll all work. The bendy mast has also been put in, albeit it may look too bendy, but don't worry, the back stay tension can be adjusted. It's all temporary at the moment. I've also had a go at doing the railings (on one side of the ship only), at this stage. I'll do the other side later on. I hope you enjoy the photos. Cheers Patrick
  20. Hey Igor Give it a go!!! Sculpting can be another skill to add to your resume! Cheers Patrick
  21. Hi Dennis Please wish your Admiral a big Happy Birthday! Congratulations are also in order too, as your AG's marches towards completion (well, near completion). The level and quality of detail is amazing and a testament to your skills and creativity. The joint down the middle of the deck also looks good. Well done! Cheers Patrick
