    Yesterday I created other pieces of decoration on stern according to a model of Saint Michael (1669).

    http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/65963.html
    The sculptures are more detailed in comparison with decoration on my older ship models.

    Nice, Michael. I was trying to do something like that on my Cocca Veneta, your solution seems a great one - I mean, in showing them frames.

    Hi mates,

    Couple of minor updates
    ===============================

    Made a shot locker, as well as a box for blocks.
    Some thoughts;
    •Shot locker is intended as an example of where they were probably placed. It should be taller and extend through and above
        the lower floor (if I understand this correctly)
    • Block box was just to fill a space.
    • Will fill the other side with barrels.
    • need to add many treenails and pins where floor and walls are visible
    • will also add a lot of ballast rocks

    Neither the shot locker or the block box have yet been glued to the floor

    work in progress....

    Thanks for all the likes and encouraging comments.

    Got the lower catharpins rigged on. I rigged them the way the plan sheet shows them instead of the simplified way the instruction book shows. This wad very difficult because of the very tight space and the scale size.  After doing one I really wished I had just tied them off at each end. Now I dread doing this again when I get to the upper ones. ( Sorry but the pics loaded in reverse again)

    I also decided to make another modification, because I was not satisfied with a design of leadlights at all. They did not correspond to reality and there were also significant mistakes with axial symmetry. All these leadlights were carefully removed and replaced by new ones. I followed expert advice by Captain KL (Kpt.KL) who helps me to move the model to greater historical accuracy. You can find his comments and very useful information on Czech Modelforum:

    And here is the model placed among my other card sailing ships. Probably the Royal Katherine will be exposed together with my currently best card model  - Sovereign of the Seas.

    I love this room in our house; we call it a "harbor", cause you can see more than 40 ship models there.

    The case floor planking is moving with a steady pace.
    However, it turned out trickier than I though. The wood (willow) is not behaving properly - cups a lot due to a glue moisture, and, apparently, shrinks afterwards. So I stopped applying moisture to planks, otherwise I get shrinkage (I promise this joint was super tight initially). The shrinkage ratio is definitely higher then with pear.

    And made plexiglas plates that allow me to put a steady pressure on a whole plank, ignoring thickness of planks around it. So now I can put some heavy books instead of these weights:

    A week later, some planks started to shrink and deform where there was not enough glue. Argh! And applying glue to the entire planks = moisture = cupping and shrinkage.

    Basically this setup and this wood (willow) is really not suited for a water-based glue. Ideally I should have used a vacuum bag and epoxy instead of PVA. But I would not dare mixing so many batches of epoxy, and I will definitely screw up the alignment if trying to glue more than one pair of planks at a time.
    So the plan is simple - glue as it goes, let it dry for a week to make sure all gaps are opened. After that - inject epoxy under distorted planks, hoping it would lock everything in place. Fill other gaps with epoxy as well. Luckily the epoxy I have (west systems) is similar in colour, no need to dye it or mix it with sawdust (otherwise it might be too thick to get into the gaps).

    Also finished all the wiring and tested it. It works! To make things more complicated, I passed through a single power cable that powers the case itself and a stereo system located nearby. The case has a 220v switch (just in case) and a dimmer regulator. It looks messy, but all wire connections are carefully spliced, soldered, isolated and I tried to be very careful and cut no corners. Do not want this thing to be a hazard.

    Truly appreciate all the hints and comments, pointing that sometimes less is more and display case should not take a lot of attention from the model. Well, thanks!
    So I simplified it, will get rid of that rounded corners, and use three-way miters to join the parts of the case. Apart from that - same design.

    The main ingredients have arrived!
    Swiss pear for all exposed parts (will use plywood for the torsion box that will provide the foundation).
    And the high quality LED strip with a proper power source and dimmer:

    Estimated cost so far:
    Wood: 105 EUR ($116)
    LED stuff: 135 EUR ($150)
    Glass (optical clear grade plexiglas, 3mm, 0A570 HC): 105 EUR ($116)
    Total: 345 EUR ($380)

    Going to finally make some sawdust this weekend!
