  1. I agree. I would use the masts as reference though. The diameter and location of these is not likely to have changed through the years. I am not so sure about the hatch location changes, if any. Dave
  2. I have looked over quite a few build logs. It seems that almost everyone has the elm pumps angled somewhat so I have turned them just a bit to fit into the current deck configuration and give them some angulation. Now elm pumps 2.0. ...of course: they are still not yet glued in prep for Elm Pumps 3.0!
  3. No. Not glued yet Jud. I will reposition and see how they look. Is inboard positioning standard? Dave
  4. Placing the pumps has been challenging - only because references are few (at least those I could find). Marquardt's AOTS has a small pic on pg. 79. I almost missed it - but it does show their location. You would think that the Marquardt and Revell plans would be close but the hatches are different. I used the only solid reference point between the two, the main mast diameter, and mapped out the locations on the Revell deck. The pumps are not glued in these pics but I think I am happy with their placement. I put the pump handles closest to the main mast over the outlet of the chain pumps. It does work and saves space. Both items that would have been important. These locations also are generally clear of the respective gun actions.
  5. Nice job on the knees and dagger knee Alexandru. I love following your work. And I learn a lot. I did not know the knees were offset of the beams. Nice detail.
  6. The coals really are very cool. In regards to a tray, I used a brass square tube and shaped it into a rectangle then solderd it. I placed a shaped peice of brass sheet and soldered it to the top of that and then blackened them. The sheet is very thin and blackening can and almost did destroy it. Once rinsed and dried I sealed it with flat clear enamel. Then lastly I applied the copper sheeting on the edges with copper tape followed by another coat of clear spray. The result is on page 11 and 13 of my build. (http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/444-uss-constitution-by-lambsbk-%E2%80%93-revell-%E2%80%93-plastic-%E2%80%93-196-with-fiber-optics/page-11)
  7. There will be 4 total. I still have to research exactly where to place them.
  8. I decided to work on the elm pumps this week. The prototype is below. It still needs a little tweaking and shaping but you can get the idea. Once again Blue Jacket brass came to the design rescue as I used the hammock crane bracket to form the pump arm bracket. All the parts except the pump tampion. This is the result before reshaping.
  9. Very nice. I have been going over the shrouds in m mind knowing they are on the horizon.
  10. I think as serious modelers we tend to be perfectionist by nature. We spend countless hours on a single project...it is completely natural to want to do it to the best of our ability. If we had a business and it was staffed with nobody but modelers it would in all likelihood be a success (unless of course we were all too much distracted by our hobby )!
  11. Well. At long last the ship yard is open again (i.e. life has slowed down a little again). I made a few small steps of progress. I have continued on the fore and main tack and sheet lines. As mentioned previously - these probably were not originally secured on the gun deck but that is where Revell has them and I don't know the detail well enough to bring them up to the spar deck (where they should in all likelihood have been routed). I used a coil on deck to stow the excess line on the fore tack. I used a coil loop on the main tack. I think I like the coiled loop better and will keep on using this configuration for the rest of the lines on the gun and spar decks. It did give me grief though. My CA glue just did not grab the way it used to 6 months ago. Time for some new stuff. Coil on deck Looped coils
  12. Very nice video Jerry. And it certainly interests us non-RCer's as well. Fascinating seeing her sail. So whats next? I suppose you could mount more canon and that could take care of the competition.
  13. Daniel: great pics. In the second photo the short bench is positioned to cross over the truss wheels. Could it be both views are correct depending on the deck furniture or guns nearby?
  14. My German is not that great but does that refer to the crew?
  15. Aww...thank you Augie. I had missed that. I appreciate the reference.
  16. Nice work Augie. If you don't mind could you post a better pic of your elm pumps. I am having a little dilemma with my design. Thanks. Dave
  17. 120 + 60 tiny, painted working sailors...incredible! Beautiful.
  18. Really nice detail Daniel (especially at this scale - I tend to forget how small these are - with your work that is easy to do.)
  19. It looks good John. Maybe it is just the camera angle but is the rake a little steep on the mizzen mast? Is that something the standing rigging corrects later on - I am a long ways from this step but was curious. Dave
  20. Thanks Ray. Actually my wife gets out of the cast in 3 days - yeah. Life will slowly get back to normal and then back to the shipyard - I really am anxious to resume. Dave
