  1. A lot of the Egyptian cotton is single ply (i.e. made from long cotton fibers). You should avoid multi ply if possible. These are made of shorter fibers interweaved together and are more prone to stress stretch.
  2. Just catching up Geoff. Your build looks great. I love your bench set up too.
  3. Great idea Jay. Halving the breeching as well as the truck and tackle will also be challenging. Can't wait to see what you have come up with.
  4. This is really coming together nicely Jay. I LOVE those glowing camboose coals! It is a beautiful build. Dave P.S. If I could make a small suggestion: On pics like the one above of the entire build (post #504) - if your camera will do it - take a higher resolution shot. The site will allow up to about 2 megapixels per pic which, if uploaded, really allows us viewers out here to get up close and personal with your build. Your detail is worth every bit of this eye candy. Well done.
  5. Wow...even up close shots show the detail you have achieved. Well done.
  6. Yes, about that...I really am tired of being a spectator - but my wife and I have had other projects to work on around the house: FROG upgrade, van repair, organizing closets...the list goes on and on. I really can't wait to open the yard back up - but for now I will have to pending the rest. At least, if I am relegated to spectating, you guys here on MSW have great stuff to follow.
  7. Awe shucks...I did miss it. Happy belated birthday Augie...and many more! Dave
  8. That is one tough ship to handle that kind of horizontal clamp stress. Can't wait to see the result.
  9. I am not sure how you fixed it Alexandru but I agree: the deck camber looks a lot better after you re-touched it.
  10. Holy smokes Denis I can't believe I am just now seeing this thread. She is a beauty! Great job!
  11. Daniel: check that link...I am getting a connection error. I would love to see the article. Dave
  12. It is exciting to see when things come together AND work! Congratulations. Very nice indeed.
  13. We have been told to stay off the roads and stay home. Ours was never in any serious flood risk but there are so many around us in lower lying areas that have lost so much. Keep those prayers coming...
  14. I have not had time to work the framing of the forward spar deck yet but have at least a preliminary plan. The knees may be impossible to include but I haven't given up yet. On another note however my wife surprised me with a home decorated birthday cake today. Chocolate - my favorite. Hmmm...maybe I should get her to help with sails and rigging the model when that time comes. ...not bad for her first 'ship cake.'
  15. I am heading back from vacation in a few days and have decided to give the clear foredeck a try with the beam structure under it. However, this choice is not without it's challenges. I have not figured out the beam structure plan yet and will defer to other modelers and ship plans that have gone before me. I especially am concerned with getting the knees into position midst the already positioned port door cables (easier to change) and the guns (which are already in place and can not be moved without some serious demolition.) I am certain the port door cables will have to be revised in this section but the position they are in currently is not accurate anyway and I have been unhappy with their placement for quite a while. At least this will give me an incentive to change some of them. I think I have worked out a way to attach a block and cable to the UNDER deck for these port cables. If the clear deck does not work than I will try a cut-away foredeck which other modelers have already proven does work.
