Great start Stuart. I will be following with interest. Just a note...not all of the long boats inner wales will be seen, so you may want to detail the exposed ones only. It is still most of them but may save you a little bit of work. I agree with Evan on the planking. If you do re-plank with plastic the paint would be troublesome. I.e. some chipping is evident in my built as I have worked the deck...and it is getting worse. I can't wait to seal the deck so it will not get to be too noticeable. This has occurred from scribing the caulk lines after painting the planks. I believe Evan re-scribed his planks BEFORE painting them. But before re-scribing the deck one touch with a fine grit sandpaper may restore a little wood grain to the plastic. Good luck. Dave

USS Constitution by galf

I agree with Brian, very nice start. I am looking forward to following your log. -
They were treated with plastruct liquid cement gently and then pressed gently into position while wet. The plastruct is clear for the most part and gave the small ropes a 'gravity' look. It also partially cements the rope to the model. It works well (at least on plastic). This was a suggestion brought to me by another forum member (kimathm). PS: sorry for the lack of progress on the build lately...the admiral has me on another project: but back to yard will be soon I hope.

Chris I started with NO knowledge about using these plastic products so my first purchase was an assortment bag of different pieces. I was able to draw from it for a long time to make some of my deck furniture (on my gun deck) but eventually had to buy some additional stock from the hobby store. Since the assortment bag did not list the thickness of various pieces I bought an accurate caliper. This tool has actually been indispensable to me. Converting to 1/96 scale is much easier on the brain with the tool (digital readout.) It was not too bad on the budget as I recall. I will get the tool detail to you later tonight. Good luck.

Looks nice Andy. I am not sure but I believe the T'gallant shrouds were maintained for ease of mast removal in a gale. As a result their rigging was probably simpler. I will look into that more as time allows but re-doing my FROG room has taken most of my spare time of late however.

Yes, thanks Augie. I was amazed at the strength of the repair - the wire really made a difference. I think I could hang the entire ship from that line and cleat.

It has been a long time since I was able to work in the yard but started back again today. When last I left my ship I had replaced the Revell knobs for the fore and main Tack and Sheet lines with cleats. Today I tried securing those lines to the first cleat - it broke clean off - urghh. So what to do. I decided to secure the cleat with wire. The cleat was carefully drilled out for a bit of brass wire and then superglued. The bulwark was again violated with a drill bit and the cleat pulled through and again secured with superglue. Finally the wire was clipped and the outer hull repaired. Although it was a lot stronger I think I accidently twisted the cleat upside down when installed. C'est la vie. So - I have 1 cleat and line secured - not as much as I had hoped for.

Kimberly, Testors makes a plastic filler in the colors white and green (forest green, really) and it is very easy to work with. Most hobby stores will have it but online deals may be better. Dave

Cleaning the flash off these molded plastic parts is really challenging but well worth the effort. The detail really 'pops' when they are clean.

Dido...I am in plastic right now but I cupped out a small spot for each cannon carriage wheel and cemented them firmly in place.

That is some very nice detail work on those blocks and tackle. I know the scale here and you have a gotten a good result for the effort. Very nice. Did you use CA at all to secure the line or milder fixatives?
