For my first build, I thought I would start with a plastic kit and see how it goes from here. After a couple trips to my local hobby shop I purchased an 896-piece model called Pirate Ship. 896 parts may seem a bit ambitious, but I wanted a fair amount of detail.

Perhaps a bit of back-story is in order. My basement's decor is loosely based on the period of Age of Sails. It started with my wife's and I love of the sea, but being landlocked, we thought we'd bring a small window of the sea into the home. A 180-gallon salt-water aquarium was set-up in the basement and we were well on our way. From there it seemed only natural to go with a nautical theme.

I also enjoy woodworking and built an aquarium tank stand with two mermaids holding up a portion of the stand. From there an interest in historical accounts of pirates evolved, which lead to the purchase of the Revell Kit.

Here is a photo of the boxed kit, as I am still working up the nerve to opening it.

Hi.

   You will enjoy this kit i had it a while ago.

Except for the figure head it's the same kit as the Zvezda's Black Pearl kit. You got the better one as it's a

lot cheaper than the Black Pearl version but exactly the same quality. :)

I was relieved to see that the pirate doing the "Capt. Morgan" didn't come with the rock..........hard one to explain on a deck  :D  :D   I've seen that kit...the admiral loves pirate ships too.......I still have the Jolly Rogers to build.   so you haven't opened the box.......let me guess....it's molded in black plastic  ;)

take a poll........molded in black,  white,  or brown {yes,  tan is included in this}

looking forward in seeing the start of your build  :)

Winds, good luck with your built ship looks interesting, like the crew too.  I'd also love to see a picture of your aquarium.

Here is a photo of the Mermaid tank I made for a 65 gallon tank. I was going for a distressed Caribbean look.

I don't even want to hazard a guess as I've seen plastic ships hulls in just about every color.  The blue from Heller is the worst, in my opinion.

Whether its true to life or not its still a salty looking little ship and could have been..My guess for the color is green. I also like your tank stand and tank. You must be into chemistry too as a Saltwater tank is beyond me.   Bill

Thanks, the kit should be fun. Glad you like the tank. Saltwater isn't has difficult as it once was, I'm proof of that. :)

Thanks for the picture of the aquarium, it looks great.

Glad you like the tank. :)

Mike,

I have the same ship in my stash and one of these days I'll actually get to it. The one thing I do not like about the kit is the capstan the actually surrounds the main mast. I plan on junking it and scratching my own. Otherwise, it is a cool kit. I have built a couple of Zvezda/Revell ships and the molding is really nicely done. Have fun on it.
