Sanson by hof00 - FINISHED - Artesania Latina - 1/50 - 19th century tug

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I started this some time ago as a little "Light" relief after the Cutty Sark.

Was hoping for a quick build, but as we all are aware, there is no really "Quick" build in this hobby.

I only have a "Smattering"of Photos in the very early stages of the build before I literally "Shelved" the project.

The build is a little more advanced with Bulwarks, Etc. attached but will need to think about De-Constructing these and making good. As stated, it's been away for a while but I think that I will concentrate after Pen Duick in, hopefully 2 - 3 weeks time.

Unfortunately, I cannot do multiple builds, I need to focus on one thing at a time.

Looking at LA Don's build has given me a bit of incentive to complete this.

I think that this will also benefit from LED Lighting.

O.k. not much of a Sunday for Modelling, Not particularly in the right frame of mind.

I have however taken a couple of Photos of Sanson as of today.

Shouldn't be too much of an issue to Remove the Bulwark/Superstructure Sides, finish the Deck a little better and redo the Wheel House, and re-paint stuff of course.

As I may have mentioned, I think I'll do some LED Lighting and see if I can get my hands on some Fibre Optics to do the Navigation and Mast Lights.

(Anyway, that's the plan going forward. :))

I have all the necessary Bits and Pieces to complete.

O.K. Disassembled what I had already done.

Not particularly happy with what I had done, or, for that matter the "Finish."

So, Superstructure has gone as has everything that touched the Deck!

I am pretty confident that I can rescue all the bits and have already started to gauge/think about the way to approach things in a constructive manner.

The first thing is to sand back components, assemble and paint.

(No Photos as yet, will Post when I have something "Positive" to share.)

Cheers....HOF.

Courageous 'arry, I'll look forward to what you will dish us up. Any pictures on the destruction of the deck furnishings? Nice to compare with your future build up.

Cheers

So, things are moving on a little, removed old Glue/s on components, sanded back and starting to re-assemble.

Bulwarks tomorrow but the bulk of the tear-Down/Re-Furbish is complete.

I did have Coamings around the Main Deck House, unsure if I'll re-install these.

Main Deck House reassembled and will give it a "Spray" tomorrow.

I'll hopefully get some photos posted tomorrow also.

It is my intention to add Lighting to the interior and exterior, could someone point me in the right direction as to what the colours should be for the various lights on the Mast?

Cheers....HOF.

Thanks Scott,

This was something that I thought would be a "Quick Win" after the Cutty Sark, a Planking and Painting exercise, unfortunately, there are no quick wins in this hobby.... Patience is a virtue. :)

So, I halted the build in 2014 and "Shelved It." (Literally)

I was never happy with the input thus far so best to "Tear" it down, I feel better for it.

I hate re-work but I should have done it right first time!!

(Feeling "Positive")

Small update,

Bought some Diodes, Green/Red/Yellow White, Veroboard, Etc.

Still stripping Glue, old paint and generally tidying things up.

I'll add some detail to the Wheelhouse with a Ships Wheel and a Telegraph.

Pretty happy with progress at this juncture.

Photos soonish....

Small update,

Started putting things back together after cleaning up the various components.

Not too much damage, a good thing.

White components sprayed with Tamiya TS 26, Inner Bulwarks Brush Painted "Atelier" Deep Yellow. (Need a thinned coat to finish)

Time to start on the Wheelhouse, Interior to be Re-Planked and I'll add some internal detail, Ships Wheel, Telegraph.

Lighting, Interior and Exterior to be planned.

Some Photos of the "Tear Down for your viewing pleasure. :)

Yup, slow and steady this time around.

Lighting and a bit of extra detail will help the basic kit overall. (I'm hoping anyway :))

Hi All,

A couple of photos of progress on the re-build thus far.

So, I wanted to see how things looked, a bit of a "Mock-up" really.

Ventilators were sprayed with Alclad, Polished Brass, as I'm not that wealthy that I can get these cast in Brass. (As much as I'd like to....)

Still much to do but I think will be worth the effort.

Hi All,

A Mock-Up....

Progress? I think the "Tear Down" has been worthwhile thus far.

Looks like a bit like a Christmas Tree....

I guess this is soon the time of year.

LED installed in Deck House/Engine Room (High Intensity LED's Not Cheap!!)

Installed also in the Wheelhouse and "Navigation" lights

Mast Lights will come eventually, wiring installed.

I'll drill out the Nav' and Masthead Lights to accept the LED's

O.k.

After some "Soul Searching" and not wish to start anything new, I had a good look at the progress thus far....

(Not that anything has been done for a few months.)

I have, in the interim, purchased a new Compressor, with a Tank and Regulator.

Since this is also a "Tear Down" and "Rebuild" there is some trepidation, should I Just shelve it and do something else? (Rhetorical question, I guess)

I also had attempts at "Glazing" Portlights, my Punches were not good enough.... Tried Clear Silicone also but have now opted for no glazing, no stress.... 🙂

Regarding "Alclad" in my experience, the finish doesn't take kindly to "Handling."

Is this others experience?

Anyway, onwards/upwards....

Cheers....HOF.

O/K.

Some Digital Dust, so to speak, Thanks Carl. 🙂

I am re-acquainting  myself with the build.... (And with the flow of the hobby. :-))

It's been a while, life gets in the way sometimes.

Anyway, the Tear Down Re-build is starting,/progressing I have a "Fitting" Wheel House and pretty much Bulwarks.

I'll post some photos soonixh….

Smallish update....

After several months of inactivity, I am working to get my "Mojo" back.

Continuing on with the Tear Down/Build.... (More Build Now)

The majority of the components haver been cleaned up and re-painted.

I need to re-fit the wheelhouse so that light doesn't leak out.

Navigation Light fittings have been drilled out to accept LED's

Interior Bulwarks have been re-sprayed

Cabling tidied

Brass Ventilators/Portlights/Prop. re-sprayed (Alclad)

Brass "Grab Handles" installed as are Doors and Portlights.

Unsure if I'll Glaze the Wheel House. (Don't really like the Acetate.)

I think it'll be o.k.

(Good to do something positive for a change)

Little and often....

Cheers....HOF.

Small update:

Bulwarks attached, (Superstructure inclusive), but have not yet finished the Wheelhouse. (That's attached with a bit of Masking Tape to enable the Hull to be sanded without breaking stuff.

Looks a bit like a "Ship Wreck" but am confident it'll be o.k. (Please be gentle with me, this is a complete Tear Down/Rebuild so it's going to look not too flash in the initial stages.

1st Planking about 50% complete, a bit of filler, but I'm not ashamed of this. 🙂

(Just or you Carl, the "Digital Dust" is starting to dissipate!! Good to be back in "The Fold" as it were. :-))

BTW: Does anyone know what colors the Masthead lights might have been/are? There's three of them.... and the Resistor Circuit Board is set up for three series connections. (Any advice gratefully welcomed.)

Cheers....HOF.
