That Camel's a cool looking kit, and its really detailed. How long did it take to build? My experience with plastic was primarily cars. I choose ships so I could expand my understanding of ships rigging. I just looked up the Camel kit and the engine detail gets my blood pumping and if that didn't the machine gun did. Do you have any pictures.

The Camel took about 6 months to build it. It was fun,and I also love WWI bi-planes. My favorite is the Red Barron's triplane, whi Model Expo is supposed to be finishing up the prototype and selling in the next month or so, I probably won't tackle it until I finish with the Morgan....if I'm still around by then. I'll post a picture of the Camel tomorrow. I know we're a ship forum, but 1 picture shouldn't hurt....

I've got that Camel kit sitting in the cupboard too - it calls to me occasionally. I bought it when ME had it on sale for about 50% off - couldn't resist!

 

You could always post a picture of yours with your ship in the background - that way you couldn't be accused of being off-topic!

I'm a Dr-1 fan as well.   I've done a little stick and tissue in my younger days.........my best flyer was a D-VIII.   I have gotten back into it,  I'm currently  working on a spitfire.........want to work myself up to a Dr-1  {more static,  than anything}.   to build a work  of art is one thing,  but to build it and watch it take flight......well,  that's better than.................well...maybe not

I'll be posting some pictures soon.  I haven't worked much on the Morgan since I got her....spending more time on the Conny trying to get finished.  I might have to slow down on both....Admirals orders....she's feelin' a little neglected......I'm supposed to have another life besides the shipyards.....

yes Popeye, check out Model Expo's future kits for the upcoming DR-1. I also have a Byron Original's P-51 kit, complete from the 80's. It has the radio and engine and all the goodies. Ive decided I'm never ging to get to it, and I don't have room for it either. It's got an 8' wingspan and a 6' fuselage. It's for sale if anyone is interested. It's expensive though.

yeah, the camel goes on sale, when I got mine, I paid $135 for it and have never seen it that price again.  Just a fluke, but I jumped on it...It's a fun kit, and the engine is outstanding....could be a model of it's own......I loved the prop too, you have to completely carve it....

Hi Sjors, as requested here are some pictures of my 2 hump camel....She's Model Expo's Sopwith Camel.....WWI Biplane....wood and metal and many parts at that....fun project.....she's almost a ship...she's an air ship....and buzzing my Constitution.....

Nice Camel, that looks like a fun kit to build. The wing framing is so detailed ModelAirways out did themselves on that one. And you did a fine job assembling the her. So the prop is carved HUM. The $135 was a great price also.

Well today is the day after getting my USS Constitution, Revell, finished. I claeaned up the work table, switching to wood working tools rather than Plastic Rigging tools, and set the Keel. This will be a slower build, and the "Admiral" is getting restless and feels somewhat neglected due to the finish whirlpool created in the final run to complete the Conny. So, I have at least started and I guess that in itself is an accomplishment...lol...gotta keep the Admiral happy as many of you know....

I suggest that you celebrate the completion of the Conny and the placing the keel of the Morgan by taking the Admiral out for a nice nights celebration. Her choice. If your admirals like my, she's worth taking care of and spoiling.

 

Tammy's very supportive of my hobby, but then she's seen my disablity suck the life out of me and also watched the life that ship building has regiven me. We see it as therapy. There's just something about having something done at the end of the day that gives life meaning, for me. Even if it one little stern post, like last night. This hobby and the community at MSW has done that for me.

 

I really wish you hadn't shown me that camel kit, I can't quit thinking about it. Something about that kit I just REALLY like. The detail just is amazing. If ME drops it below 150 its mine .

 

I'm looking forward to this one, how many ships boat does she have? is it 6? Even though I don't like the idea of whaling, Its a part of our history and the man that whaled had to be some of the bravest soul ever to live. Talk about the worlds deadliest catch. I wonder what the mortality rate of a whaler was back in the day.

As for the build I think with your Connie and Sop you have more then proven you can handle this

These first steps are important, extra time spent here will pay off through out the whole build.
