Great build......The rotating tiller wheel looks good...the tiller box looks good...but my 1870's image shows the interior spaces were white.

 

Still..looks accurate..and cleanly done.

Hi, rwiederrich, thanks for the photo and info.  Everything I have seen regarding colors seem all consistently show it to be a yellow ochre color.  I just visited the Mystic Seaport last month, and there were people there actually painting this exact area yellow ochre to match the rest of the ship.  All photo's I've seen, as well as some models at the museum, show it also.  Now inside the structures is white though, and that is consistent also.  So I am following that line of history for my build.  I'm not saying it couldn't have been white, but that is contrary to what I've been able to determine....thanks though, and I appreciate the picture.

I know ships take on different looks and paint schemes under different captains.  Being a commercial vessel the Morgan underwent many retrofits and modifications not to mention paint schemes.  When I build a vessel I tend to attempt to build her as she was originally constructed based upon the builders design...or the owners design/preferences.  The Morgan underwent plenty of major refits and mods to include her aft house. My photo collection are from her 1870's refit and overhaul.  Like with most Cutty Sark models that include the Poop house aft entrance and her round roof entrance over her fore hatch.  These are not original configurations and are for public access.  Same with the Morgan.  Your build is very good and I'd keep the direction, you're on, if that is your direction.  I included the image to show the difference...irregardless of what your current data suggests.  I also noticed you built her without her added galley windows.

 

Keep up the great build...I'll be looking in.

it's a conspiracy John.........they make the cameras, so that they show this stuff.......and you go and buy another one.   mine does the same thing.........I think if you bang it on the table .........real hard.......about for or five times,  you might knock some sense into it......Hee.....Hee

 

   I don't care about the little white stuff.......the camera picks everything up.......even deep into the creases    I think you did a super job,  it looks awesome!

Thanks Robert.  I'm primarily trying to build a good ship.  As far as historical accuracy, I'm just going along with the flow.  This is my first wooden ship, so it is new to me.  Thank you for your input, and photos they are greatly appreciated.  I am not familiar with additional galley windows.  This was all the plans and photos showed.

Yeah Popeye, I've banged it and even dropped it a couple of times, and it still has a mind of its own....glad you like where I am here....it's starting to look kinda cool....like a real ship....the roof is going to make it have a different appearance....I'm looking forward to it..

Yes John, doing a real ship appeals to me. That why I picked the Constitution. Last summer my son made a trip out East and visited the Conny and took some pictures for me.

Yeah Geoff, I did the same thing.  I recently finished my Revell Conny, and moved on to the Morgan.  I was in Boston in September, and Mystic in October and visited both ships.  A member of this forum is a member of the 1812 Marine's and has direct access to the Constitution.  We had an after hours (after the ship closes to the public) private tour of the ship.  We went to areas the general public does not have access to, and it was quite amazing to have a National Monument completely to ourselves with no one aboard but the watch for as long as we liked.  An opportunity of a lifetime.  I took quite a few pictures, of both the Consittution and the Morgan so let me know if you need any.  There are several outstanding build logs going on at this time in the forum which are great for reference and just enjoying nice ships....enjoy

I'm not sure if this is a "real" fixture (as it is not on any plans or photo's)  on the ship, but I thought it would add some realism and a point of interest.

Hi Dave, those kinda seemed like a neat thing to do.  I was looking through some old photos, and believe it or not there actually was a rack right in the same spot for some ropes and things.  I couldn't find a life ring, but maybe??  Real coincidence, I guess someone on the ship thought that was a good place also...

Ok, well, now the roof is glued and painted, and after looking at these pictures I see that I still have some touch up painting to do as well as removing some wood fuzzies on the corners and such.  The camera sees way more than I do.  That conspiracy thing again Augie.  I added the skyway hatches, galley stack, and the rear davits.  Tomorrow is a ladder and rail, some clean up, and then perhaps start in on the skylight.  It's a real task all by itself, and I have to be real careful, as it is tedious as well.
