You once told us about your cat. Our kitten, a 7-month-old Norwegian Forest cat (norsk skogskatt) have twice tried to take bite in the support for the bow sprit. Fortunately without success. I suppose the wood smells good for a cat too.

Cheers mate, it has been midsummer and it's something we celebrate big time in Sweden, but I've done some progress. A lot of planning and research and a little build.

I thought the rigging phase would be difficult and it seems I was right. :) friends that see the model say that she is almost finished, and I show pics of all the lines and ropes and they change their mind.

Hi Matti,

The deadeyes look really good mate, just a quick question though, do you intend to paint or stain them or are you going to keep them that colour.

To my mind they would look better stained.

Keep it up Matti, she looking great.

the chain plates look great........you can throw that noob badge out any time now  ;)   Nigel said it best......you can't be a noob,  and put out this degree of craftsmanship.   you've taken this kit so far past it's scope,  that if you never told anyone that it was a Billing's kit,  they wouldn't know.   fantastic work.......your  'eye'  and  'vision'  of this ship is amazing!

Matti!

I envy your patience and accuracy! I feel that I am too impatient sometimes.

I struggle with the interior of the cannon ports. Did you paint anything red in the interior lining of the ports or are they only stained?

Wow, thanks guys, really!

Popeye, I could't make this if Billings model didn't have a good overall shape and the plastic figures. It makes it easy to tweak it right and make a nice representation. My build has problem areas because of my lack of experience, but I try to see them as lessons learned.

Tom, patience is a good thing when doing a Vasa build, especially if you do it polychrome and add the missing sculptures. The only red is the area around the lion heads. I used brown and black/dark grey, and black inside. I'm not sure if my way to make open gunports is the best though (integrate the frames from the kit).

Excellent Matti!

One of  my cannon ports was at the level of a frame (spant) so I had to carve a bit on it.

I am planning to use my Corel Vasa hull as a jig for bending the planks. Hope it will work.

When you painted the figures did you dilute the acrylic paint to get it thinner?

And how did you manage to hold these small things? (Perhaps shown in your blog)

I found the open gunports to be the hardest part of the build but it is well worth it. Yes you have cut out a few frames to give space for gunports. It was no problem. For me the biggest challenge was to get the gunports in the right places. If you want them uneven like the original has, it's a bigger challenge. I used the 1:10 model and the museum plans when mapping them. The upper level has smaller gunports, so that's also something to consider. Billings has all hatches the same size so don't make the lower gunports too big.

I think it's best to use pins and rubberbands and nail the plank on the frame while it dries. It gives a perfect fit.

I dilluted the colors some so it don't destroy the details. Not to much though.

I put them on paper at a table. You can then get support for the brush hand while painting. The other hand can hold the sculpture and magnifier.

Hi I am enjoying your build great work

Did you use the billings supplied deck or just plank with timber ? Did you double plank or just stain the 1st planking ?

I am just starting my build any ideas would be appreciated

Andy
