Hi all

some have mentioned using wing nuts (butterfly nuts) instead of the standard nuts for the clamp fixings. Does anyone know the thread size needed, looks like the bolts are just shy of 5mm

thanks

Take one into your local hardware store.  They usually have gages to check size and proper threads to match what you have with what they sell.

If anyone in the USA is interested, I have one of these which I'm not going to use. It is still in the original box with seal intact.

I bought one in 2019 and it arrived with some broken parts. So I contacted Hobbyworld USA and they said they would send those parts to me. But then nothing happened over the next couple months and they weren't responding anymore to my emails. So I fixed the original one assuming I wasn't getting a replacement for the broken parts. Then out of the blue about 6 months later I received a brand new one, the whole thing without explanation. It's just been sitting here unopened. It still has the outer black plastic they used to protect it (looks like a folded up trash bag to me).

Anyways, if interested it is available. I paid $64.99 at the time plus shipping. I'll sell it for $60 plus shipping, preferably UPS which is most convenient for me. (or pick up for free from Columbia MO)

The box weighs a little over 17 pounds and measures 41" x 11" x 4"

I will put this message in the selling area too, that's probably where it's supposed to go...

Dave

I’ve just received my box, and am building with the wing nuts and wing bolts modifications as suggested.  I took a gauge and some m5 nuts and bolts I have,  and have purchased m5 wing things from Amazon, due to be delivered in a couple of hours.

I just got mine from Hobby Zone, no delay in Customs.  But I have a couple of questions:

  • Has anyone sealed the MDF?  It can be a bit crumbly, especially if the screws are overtightened.
  • I like the idea of reversing the nuts and replacing the bolts with wingnuts.  But, does anyone know what thread pitch they are?  I'm not excited about opening the hardware bag and walking through Home Depot and/or Ace Hardware with loose screws/nuts/bolts in my pocket.

Anyway, thank you for this review and build out.

Hello, I recently purchased at Hobbyzone - Professional Building Slip - HZ-pms1 (hobbyworld-usa.com) They are $75 dollars us plus about $25 to ship. However they have changed the way these are built, the base is assembled in multiple pieces. This makes for a smaller box to ship. I would like to mention that I did find that the clamps for the keel break at the backend easily when trying to squeeze them to clamp the keel. I thought about replacing the small wedge piece with a solid hardwood piece, but instead went with drilling 2 - 1/8" holes in each clamp(at bak end) and went with walnut dowels 1/8", works great. Did not want to use nails.

Does anyone know what the minimum size of hull this cradle can take? I know HobbyZone makes a smaller cradle, but if this one can handle small as well as large hulls, then I wouldn't need both versions. I ask, because it looks like the length is only adjustable a certain amount, and while it says it can go up to 100cm, the site doesn't mention what it can go down to.

Hi,

There are extra holes for moving pieces but you can always drill few more, plus the fixing "lug" has oval holes for moving. I would say its minimum size is few cm with some adjustments.

The only thing I can say about this ..
it’s a piece of carton ! (I don't want to use ugly words out of respect for the forum)

today I worked  all a day for square the main jig ! And nothing !!!!!! (I’m using the best square over the world the Kinex one !!!)
So if you working with that piece of carton don’t blame yourself why your ship it’s twisted !!!!
also it’s good for you to know about the “new model “ it’s made of 2 pieces and not from one solid piece !
so this post not relevant anymore

I’m very disappointed ! ! ! !

do a favor for yourself don’t spend your money on it !

I ordered one of those, Hobbyzone building slips, because I can't read to well this is what I got. A Hobby sense  Billings Slip. Spelling counts I have heared. It was going to cost more to ship it back then I paid for it  I have had my Viking Drakkar  in it , 19 inch hull, and an Astrolabe  34.5 inch hull. But I dont like using it, my home made one works the best. :Dimage.png.4fbcd73ca381465785e04af9d7f20759.png
