Hello all -

I am new to this forum, but not new to building various models.  I poked around different companies who sell wooden ships (for newbies) and someone from Sergal called me suggesting the "Achilles 1812 Pilot Cutter Ship Model Kit - Sergal (794)" .  I have not started it as I need some supplies. Clamps for sure...but I really dont know what else I need.  The gentleman suggested steaming the planks, but, I am in need of reading ideas, advice, and such from this website.  I live in New Jersey and I am 58.  With this crazy virus shutting down most places, it seems I have time to figure out what I need for the build.  I hope everyone is safe and healthy, and I look forward to comments and reading up on "newbie" builds.  I am amazed at the photos on here..some really magnificent builds.

Thanks !!

Al

Welcome Al,

When this pandemic goes away, you may want to look at joining the northern NJ modeling club.  All types of skill levels and builds from that august group.    I believe they are listed on this site regarding meetings and such.

In the meantime, read as many articles here as you can, including the planking tutorials and   build logs of similar vessels.  The amount of information available here is incredible!!
