Just make sure they are fully dry before "wiggling" them..... Another thing to consider, one thin coat as a base color and dry brush the rest.... you will avoid most of the paint sticking issues that way.... There is a lot of consideration given to washes but the issues with washes stem from their ability to flow into all the nooks and crannies, a good thing with fixed static parts not good with parts that are supposed to be flexible....

In the end, the overall flat coat will stiffen the tracks anyway, but you don't need stiff when your mounting them....

Good points brother.

I think I will dry-brush steel onto the tracks, since they are already a sand color. The pads will be brushed a rubber black color.

That's a nice image showing the overall variations post gulf war...... (when they were back in Germany)

The three schemes in the Kit are all sandbox, 2008 when the 4th infantry Division was in Iraq, SSW of Baghdad.....

I have 16 images of the actual tank in Iraq... (the M1A1H Tusk)

Evening all,   I  continued on the track on the one side  - I  measured  the runs so far against the wheels  and worked out how many are needed to Fit  - I counted Ten more links  - so back on the template tool and Ten more were knocked out  (quite easy once you have a rhythm  going)   I had to stop at that point as they can not be joined together as they need to slide in position  then joined.

So I decided to start the paint process  - Instead of doing a washy paint all over first  I decided to go the careful route of just picking out the links and side pieces with a sandy flat alum colour - this was carefully  brushed on to the centre run then both edges on the inside, I will  mix some more paint tomorrow.

It will be a good detraction from worrying as our little  pooch goes into the vets tomorrow to be neutered  in the morning  she is 4  so we feel its a good time as we do not want her having puppies and I understand it has plenty of health benefits  for female dogs.

We will be worried about our baby though.

Here's hoping that the recovery does go well.   For a few days she'll be pretty much out of it.  After the pain meds wear off and she wants to be more active, keep her from jumping off furniture and running.   Been through that myself with lady dogs.

Indeed Ken  - I understand  having the op done is supposed to benefit thier long term health, and we would never want her to have pups,   ontop of that there is a wave of dog thefts  in the Uk  due to the price of them  and also gangs steal them to have puppies where thay them make money from selling the pups  -  its a Huge concern over here.

Evening all   progress both  with our little princess and the Chally  - firstly our pooch  -  she is doing well  had a quite night  sleeping on the sofa  as she can't manage stairs yet  so she is sleeping with her mum,  she is eating and drinking water - taking here to have her post op check out tomorrow.

I Manaaged a few hours on the bench this eve after get both of the ladies watered and fed  -  I countinued with the track  - these have had a sandy/alum paint ot the liks - this seemed to take ages, after this  was finished it was turn of the treads  - again  lots of tedious work with a couple of coats of Nato Black  (almost a dark grey)  -  I still have the inner track treads to do.

Evening all, firstly  we took or poorly princess  to have her post op  check up  - all absolutely fine she is healing very well  - next appointment  next wed.

This eve I was able to do a bit more on the tracks  -  I painted the inner treads with the same Nato Black  then it was wash/weathering time  - the idea is to make them look quite dusty  from off and on road  use,   after I was able to feed it along the wheels then attach the last link before attaching the rear drive sprocket.

I think it turned out ok  - certainly dusty.
