Large and noteworthy ship model book collection from the estate of John Curry.

Recommended Posts

A collection of modeling and nautical history books is available from the estate of John Curry.  John was a long-time NRG member and before being transferred to Kansas City (KS) had been a member of the Nautical Research & Model Ship Society of Chicago.  John passed away a couple of years ago and would have wanted his books to go to modelers instead of donated to someplace that might have just dumped them.

John’s widow Gerry has compiled a very detailed list of the books.  The books are available only to US members due to foreign shipping prices, customs forms, etc.

The books are available for $5.00 each + $5.00 each shipping except for some books that are clearly marked as a different price, but they include the shipping.  5 books or more and shipping will be discounted.

There are some great books in this collection!!!

Payments accepted:

Personal check or money order payable to Geraldine S. Curry.   PayPal also accepted.

Contact information and to check for availability is:

            gscurry@hotmail.com

            Phone or text = (913) 375-3762

I have uploaded the list and it is attached.

I will also try later to simply post the list within the topic itself.  Its an extensive list.

Its too large a list to copy into a post so please work off the PDF and Geraldine will let you know what titles are still available after you contact her.

Oh boy, I think I might need an extra bookcase after this (actually I think I showed some slight restraint). Thank you for passing along the details Chuck.

We often get requests to help with research, some of which are open ended.  Since I too have amassed a notable library over my adult lifetime I used to direct the questioner to the relevant books in my library resulting in complaints about telling others to spend money, limited budgets, and the cost of books.

If you don’t already have a library, this is your opportunity to start one!  Almost any book on this list would be worth adding to a ship modeling library.  The prices including shipping is less than a visit to your favorite fast food joint or premium coffee shop.

I thought I'd "amassed a notable library over my adult lifetime," but I'm truly humbled. I wonder who created that spreadsheet. That was a monumental task in itself.

However, please Roger, let's not draw attention to this opportunity until we've had a chance to savor each and every mouthwatering morsel of it before it turns into a "Black Friday Sale!" :D :D :D

You can tell a lot about a man by the books he reads. Mr. Curry is a guy I'd have loved to meet! I'm sorry I never got to know him.

'Seems to me that a person's library is a representation of their mind containing many data points that went into that unique individual.  Once freed from this world, that very library becomes scattered ... with select volumes chosen by family and friends, others sold and yet others may end up in used book stores.  A few may find their way into landfills.  I thought this as my departed father's library was so distributed ... after the person passes, so does their library (perhaps with the exception of U.S. Presidential libraries - effective mausoleums to past Chiefs).

Simply wanted to comment that my books arrived today, everything was in great condition. It's a sad reason but I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to share in the collection (and my what a collection).

Between the MSW members here and the NRG Members (notified by a mass email) Gery tells me she's been quite busy shipping books.  Mary bought me the 4 Swan Series books by Antscherl and Herbert and  two others - early Christmas present.

I am sure there will be few left when everybody gets their orders in.

I hear they're pretty good, Kurt. Mary has good taste. I tried unsuccessfully to get Steeles Masting & Rigging book. For $5 it's the bargain of the century!
