Have any of you in the UK had a look at the newly released 1:48 Airfix Buccaneer yet? Their old one was challenging and I want to see the new one. Several of us did a group build challenge on the old one in the 90’s. It was a lot of fun.

Well I need to re-evaluate my previous answer today, a friend got me this for my birthday! 😁  It will be interesting to compare it to the previous release as this is the new mould.

Build log anyone? 🤓

One of the most distinctive British jet ever, yes of course I will follow. It is one of the kit that I would like to have.

By the way, I am late, but I would also like to congratulate for your neat Sea Harrier and the family portraits.

Cheers,

Dan

By now, I have one of my own as well. Maybe the three of us will do an ad-hoc build of it.

That sounds a good idea! I think looking at the kit I will largely build out of the box, I might treat it to some PE seatbelts but thats about it. Also as I have a 1/48 Bucc already with wings folded and air brakes out I might have all that closed and wings down. I llike the look of the HMS Hermes one from 1969.

I flew missions with the Buccs of RAF Sqdn 208 at a Red Flag, Nellis AFB, NV,  in 1978 or so. I think a few were painted for desert ops, the rest in the gray and green look. They looked like they were flying right on top of their shadows across the desert. We escorted them to a range up in Utah. Tried to follow them through a mountain range but had to climb up to cross the ridges but still below the ridge tops. Very impressive flying. Always enjoyed working with the RAF; always professional on the job, fun off the flight line. 👍😄

What are the physical, visual differences between the S.2C/D depicted by our kits and other versions of the Buccaneer? I have seen decal markings for Buccaneer aircraft that are not the S.2C/D version and really like them. If I stick with the kit decals, then I'll do the Ark Royal version.

As for seatbelts, I'll probably just order the Eduard ejection seats and those come with belts.

If you thinking of the RAF versions the S.2B, then there were a few differences, the S.2B had a bulged bomb bay and the wingtips were squared off, not flared out to the trailing edge.  The S.2C/Ds converted for use by the RAF were either to S.2B standard I assume looked the same as the "new build" S.2Bs but I don't know for sure.  Likewise S.2As for the RAF were they just, re-painted S2.C/Ds?  Think might be best trying to find photographs of the actual aircraft if you want another scheme.

Airfix are releasing an 1/48 S.2B later this year, so there is that option later....  Then there is the S.50 South African version?

The South African version was one of the schemes I liked, along with a camouflaged RAF version but alas, these RAF ones have the bulged bomb bay. Some seem to have the flared wingtips though.
