I have about 12 frames made, decided it was time to try and see how they looked on the keel.

With that frame Aa doesn't extend all the way to the line on the plans.  Actually none of them do.  They do all line up with each other.

Did I do something incorrect?  I don't believe this is expected.

Nope your good…looks great.  The line is really before fairing and removing any char at all.  There is plenty of meat on those frames so you are doing perfectly.  That is exactly how it should look and be. Mine was exactly the same.

Nice Shawn,

I am also making frames.  I did a quick check with frame Ba (Aa not done yet).  My frame is also slightly inside the line (less than 1/32 on each side). I was quite aggressive with my char removal and this could have slightly reduce the width of the frames. Also, a frame not perfectly square with the respect to the keel or slightly higher on one side than the other will bring the frame limit inside the line. I am curious to see if I get closer to the limit line once I have made all the necessary adjustments.  I will keep you posted.

You could use machinist squares placed on each side of the frame and set the frame equidistant from the half breath lines on the plan.

I for the life of me cannot find any of the pieces to build frame 12a.

Could I ask someone to look at their kits and let me know which billets I should be looking for these.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Shawn,

They seem to be scattered amongst several billets:

That is a cant frame....its in chapter two....

Its cant frame #12 which is a half frame under the aft gunport.  You need to finish all the other square frames first.  The last square frame is 12F.

Nice job on the frames! Lots of work indeed! I was thinking about the same thing, adding treenails to the frames before or after they are glued to the keel. My first thought is to (if you're adding them) is to do so before the frames are glued to the keel as they are easier to handle while in a free state. But then, if they are glued to the keel, you could make adjustments to their alignment to make sure you have consistency for the overall effect. I'm also thinking that a jig of some sort would give the consistency needed for a neat effort.

Best Regards .... Rick

I’m considering setting all the “tall frames”, and then go back setting the “small frames”.

Or is it best to do the sweep port and gun port frames as I go?

Happy 4th.

Tried to get a little time in the shop today.

However, I’m ready to work on sweep port DF and am unable to find it.  Hopefully they weren’t on a different billet?

Any insight would be appreciated.
