What are your thoughts on this information included in my build posts? I really only do it for my own sake.

Not much to show for today's efforts.

I attached all the starboard bulkheads without any issues.

But it has generally been a day of fiddly bits.

🧐

Many extra pieces of PE made, and dealing with the missed paint sections on the port side.

Also making, painting, weathering and installing the five ship's boats.

As always, I'm happy!

☺️

I think I am ready to paint the planes tomorrow.

Thanks for staying interested.

Have a good weekend!

I had a great weekend and a top day today.

:10_1_10:

On the weekend, I started and finished all 27 planes!

E85.thumb.JPG.c4e9706df97bd9af6fce63f816ccce5a.JPG

A big job but I think they look great.

Today I totally finished the port side.

E79.thumb.JPG.d3090e3b989d818a1edd108e4e964509.JPG E80.thumb.JPG.373a2cd72efc9c45e3e7e44f6f4e482e.JPG

and I started on the 216 crew members, 🤪

and they're bloody small!

E83.thumb.JPG.28889db453c0eb13092f0c14632d6dee.JPG E82.thumb.JPG.6f9fd0d1708c07f2fb8ddc386e784c03.JPG

Here they are, all waiting for their colour change.

E81.thumb.JPG.1df8ebf35b0cb59e8e1e25628fe9e1d3.JPG

They were all very happy with their oufits.

E84.thumb.JPG.2147ba40d8ecfb83158db8f634565fe5.JPG

Great fun and I will add their headgear (or hair), footwear and facial features tomorrow.

The upside-down crew are good for doing their boots, but they are a little shy in

regard to their faces! I think I'll leave their faces expression less.

(Build time to date is 294.5 hours)

Cheers,

A fairly 'lame' day today.

😐

Finished the starboard side completely,

and added the hangar deck gantry/ceiling/flight deck supports.

I'm sure someone can give me the correct terminology.

Thanks for catching my post.

It's time to add the armaments and think about the flight deck.

Mike, I can't remember where I found this, but it is set in the right period. I also think that the 'yellow caps' also controlled the progress of each plane until after take-off.

Peter - if you're bored you can always hang some planes from those beautiful flight deck trusses! :D

Pretty good progress today,

however I'm now at the fragile stage where touching

anything may cause a breakage!

Most of the guns have been added.

I also filled the hangar deck with planes and crew so I can add the flight deck tomorrow.

(Not the best images unfortunately. 😏)

It was a nervous day as I added

the flight deck (generally fitted pretty well, except for the 3mm/0.12inches gap!),

the strongly adhesive flight deck cover,

and now I am working on the deck markings that have to be 'surgically removed' and

later to make way for PE insertions.

(A very demanding and time-consuming task. Not to mention the constant breakages)

I'm glad I'm making reasonable progress.

🙂

Does anyone know the colour of the 'Blue' deck? I think the Pontos kit colour is too green and dark.

Thanks for the positive comments and support. They are much needed at the moment!

Also, I like

https://www.shipcamouflage.com/camouflage_database.htm?origin=serp_auto

They seem very consistant.  They say Enterprise was MS11 and MS21 in 1942 - very similar but slightly different colors.

It seems most folks and some photos assume "Deck Blue 20-B"?   That's what I am going to go with.  Someone with better knowledge may weigh in.

As an aside, there is a video "documentary" called "The Fighting Lady (1944)" on youtube in the States anyway.   Potentially the Essex Class Yorktown in 1943/44?   Several good flight deck scenes.   Worth a watch if you want to add an hour to your build time! :P

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fighting_Lady?origin=serp_auto

And to the point, if this is Essex-class Yorktown in 1943, her decks may have been pattern MS 21 in Deck Blue 20-B per shipcamouflage.com .

I worked it out. It is a Pontos error. It is meant to say 'K11 & K12'. One of many errors in the Pontos instructions! Mongrel time wasters! 😬

I don't usually post anything on the weekend,

but, I've just nearly finished a BIG job.

About 22.5 hours' worth!

:36:

The deck is finished except for the big number 6s.

I added the PE to the recessed lines, etc.

Painted the PE using Tamiya XF-84 Dark Iron.

I masked and painted the flight deck lines.

It's so easy to say but you have to cut out all the 'dashes' first.

Accurately attach the masking sheets to the deck,

and then decide how to paint the 'dashes' without bleeding the paint.

The marker pen worked like a charm.

E99.thumb.JPG.8e10c479e2466c36ee3e199471dde2c0.JPG

I'm happy with the result.

It's the right colour, weathered a little, has the PE done, and has the flight lines on it!

I used the following for the deck.

I'm a very happy chappy!

:dancetl6:

Next is painting the 6s, adding the island, planes and crew.

(Build time to date is 326.5 hours)

Cheers,

Wow!

Very satisfying progress.

I repaired all the damage done to guns, railings and those loose bits.

Added gun emplacements on the flight deck.

Assembled and added the deck crane.

It only took three hours!

E102.2.JPG.9593aa997f476c1bb62ac7d115f12de7.JPG

Added the deck numbers.

Used Tamiya XF-63 German Grey.

Made and installed the Bomb Elevators.

And added the planes!

After weathering each one with my trusty 'Panel Line Accent Color - Black".

Worth a watch if you want to add an hour to your build time! :P

What a great view of an aircraft carrier in action. Thanks for the suggestion Steve.

The crew boarded today!

:Whew:

Considering that they are only 5mm/0.197" tall

most went straight to work.

Some pushed,

E114.thumb.JPG.c6cda4b52604dd57624d16faea4da3d9.JPG

while some loaded ordinance from the Bomb Elevator.

(Note the pilots standing around waiting with their hands in their pockets)

Some watched from the bridge, while others just lazed around on the deck, taking in the action.

All in all, I think the Enterprize is looking very ship shape!

Two jobs left:

1. Getting one plane to 'take-off', and

2. Paint and label the stand.

(Build time to date is 355.5 hours)

Thanks for the wonderful support from you great modellers.

It means a lot!

Your aircraft and figures really add life to the Big E. Well done. Only nit is the officers on the bridge were in khakis and black shoes, not dress whites or dungarees. 😉😁
