Great work on chassis and engine, Craig and thanks for sharing your soldering experiences. I will rely on CA as far as possible, but with this tiny framework, I can see the benefits of soldering. I hope you test fittet the body over it. Would be no fun, to separate unfitting parts again.

Cheers Rob

Something to keep in mind…the melting temperature of the MFH white metal is lower than 300 degrees. Something closer to 200 degrees but I cannot recall exactly. The soldering iron cannot be left in one place too long or it WILL melt the white metal. I found out the hard way but was able to repair the damage. Working with these tiny parts makes the task lots tougher to do.

The soft white metal body parts will require a lot of prep work for a proper fit and finish. The chassis rests inside the body parts with no major issues. Soon I will need to temporarily fasten the chassis to a flat surface spaced at the proper height so the suspension components can be built in a way that keeps everything square, in alignment, and ride height is correct while all four tires/wheels touch the surface.

Craig, check your iPhone photo settings. You may be defaulting to HEIC instead of JPEG/JPG.  I suspect this is your problem since you said it works after renaming.

P.S. I don’t  use i-anything. Just Android .

Update: after some Googling

Apple changed the default to HEIC  without telling anyone.

Since iOS 11, iPhone 7 and later can take photos in HEIC format - new file container for photos that reduces file size but keeps high quality.

You can set if your photos are taken in HEIC or in old JPEG format with Settings > Camera > Formats:

  • ‘High efficiency’ is for HEIC format.
  • ‘Most compatible’ is for JPEG.

Thanks for your suggestions. I’ll be sure to check them out.

You were spot on Jack. That is exactly what is happening. I'll need to change/revert back to the old format of jpeg and then all should work as it did in the recent past. iPhone is constantly sending out software updates. It must have changed in a recent update.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Yea, I hate it when the software developers send out updates which change default settings and don't tell anyone. That's why my ThinkPad is still running Windows XP 😜  I got tired of replacing my flatbed photo scanners and Canon inkjet printers just because Gates decided to declare them obsolete and unsupported in his newest version of Windows.
