Hi everyone!!

After some days off I made a little progress with the shrouds and stays.   For that I use the pictures of the 1:10 model, Clayton´s page and some imagination or common sense.  Here some pictures:

Seems like you are approaching the end. Good job. "Me cae que" (Spanish slang ;)) you are doing a terrific job with this restoration.

Any idea what will be next?

Hola Ulises

I think there are more months to go with the rigging and doing sails, but then the plan is to do the Pride of Baltimore (MS) the one I bought last year, which by the way, has plenty of instructions and plans, exactly the opposite  of BB Vasa.

That rigging line looks great. Did you make it yourself on a ropewalk ?

 Hola Brian

Thanks for your comments.  For the rigging I used mainly the material that comes with the Kit, but for the thinnest one (that comes in white color) and others I prefer to use the leftovers of others kits I already made.  Additionally I find in fabric store a cotton thread that is used for "crochet" and comes in three sizes, different colors and in general have better quality than the ones included in the Kit.

Hi there

After a week of working in some remodeling of my house I've barely had time to continue with my Vasa but here you can see that I had already put the bowsprit and some other details.

Hola a todos!!

After a very occupied weeks I had only made small advances on my Vasa (besides and as you know,  the rigging process represents much more work than it seems at first sight).  Here a small update:

Additionally, and thanks to Frank who sends me a sketch of the anchor, I modified the plastic one that comes with the Kit

Hi guys:

Continuing with the rigging I encountered new difficulties and/or inconsistencies. Till now I already made the posterior stays of the foremast and for the mainmast.

post-797-0-80784400-1408557555_thumb.jpg

In the next pictures you can see details for the posterior stays for mainmast and foremast (according to the planes of BB). Maybe instead of stays there must be the ropes that supports the upper yards as described in Corel Kit.

Unfortunately in the pictures of the 1:10 model in the Vasa museum or in Clayton´s is not possible to discern who is right. Any comments?

Nice progress, unfortuneatly I have no pictures of the 1:10 model, but the again, I don't think that they found the Vasa fully rigged, so there must be a marge between correct and wrong, unless I am missing some other sources

Good work, Karl!

Have you tried to ask Clayton or Fred Hocker directly in this forum?

Karl,

Most of us are waiting for the upcoming Vasa rigging bible Vasa II. Fred is hoping - by the end of this year, we shall see (:-)

In any case this will be the "last word" regarding all of our rigging questions. Ulises is right check the link. Fred Hocker has listed all of the chapters that will be in the Vasa II book. Your work looks excellent by-the-way.

Your rigging looks very nice - I know how difficult it is to rig those crowfeet. However,I may be wrong but I think those are the ropes to lift the upper yards. You can always ask Fred or Clayton at the Vasa forum mentioned in Ulises previous post - they are very helpful.

Hey friends:

I had several days without showing progress in my Vasa, which does not mean I was not very busy working on the rigging.

So, at last I finished the more than 1,000 knots that were needed to fixed the ratlines to the shrouds !!

Probably this ratlines could be a little thinner and darker but I used the material that came with the kit.

Now I will begin with another challenge: doing and sewing the sails in order to fix them to the corresponding yards.

Hola Matti:

Considering the details you are doing with your Vasa probably your construction is going faster than mine.  Till now I dedicated one year building the VASA and seeing the things left I will need at least 2 or 3 months to finish it.

Hola:

Before going into the sailing process I decided to finish the anchor fittings.  Here some pictures:

For the first step it was necessary to do the blocks due that the ones included in the kit seems not the appropriate.  To accomplish this I used a little piece of redwood, brass wire obscured with Black Patina (the one used to the lead in staining glass) and the metal strap for the pulley was made with a paper strip painted black.

post-797-0-55443100-1410976485_thumb.jpg

The second step was to fix the anchor ropes. Here you can see the little pieces of wire in the opposite side of the anchor that were used to fix them inside the anchor ports

post-797-0-25089100-1410976504_thumb.jpg

And finally, installing the anchors in its place. This was done according to the BB instruction manual, except I added little wood caps in the extremes of the anchor davits.  I made this because the ropes tended to slip off the pulleys due to the low weight of the kit anchors (in the original this did not happen due the great weight of the anchors)

Dear friends and Wasa builders

I have followed nearly all Wasa buildes on Model Ship World mostly yours and I'm very impressed.

After I did start with my Wasa in January I found out that the manual from Billing Boat was very uncomplete and it was nearly impossible to work after that, even when I have some experiences by Building "Santa Maria",  "Danmark" and "Jylland".

Thanks your very extremely good explanations and fotographs my ship becomes more and more nice.

Hola Werner:

Thanks for your comments.  So we are 4 instead of 3 BB Vasa builders in the forum, that is good!!.   By the way, your ship looks very nice.
