Now on to the gudgeons.

First, i formed the strip around the nail, then i silver soldered the piece.

Afterwards i cut it off.

Then i silver solderd it to another strip.

I've started on the rudder. I prepared the necessary pieces for it.

Corsair-47-1.thumb.jpg.d1a1365090ebb8e858b26df4ba99c6ea.jpg

I also blackened the pintles and gudgeons.

Corsair-47-2.thumb.jpg.0880c800e4d9dfeabaf7e8e892963dae.jpg

On one piece I've noticed a sort of white residue ?

Corsair-47-3.thumb.jpg.5bf8bb72fceedd44e8bf1a571a24d2e7.jpg

Anyone an idea what that might be?  Too much flux used during silver soldering?

Continued working on the rudder.

First i glued the parts.

Corsair-48a-1.jpg.7c037ec1a5b57e9a33ef9e2ea5a74d89.jpg

Then I made the recesses for the pintles.

Corsair-48a-2.jpg.94b1c0e61a3408f5ac5574084a76e9fd.jpg

The rudder is too small on the top to receive the tiller. So i added a piece of cherry wood on each side.

Corsair-48a-4.jpg.f12cc0b08674313d9af5dc6cfba482df.jpg

Afterwards when the glue dried, i sanded the whole thing and prepared it to receive the tiller.

Corsair-48a-7.jpg.04ed27b1ccc20646b4c4e66aba8b6ae2.jpg

Then up to the tiller.

Corsair-48a-6.jpg.643b7b0139fb51a49a9a19db34f993a3.jpg

And finally i've drilled the wholes in the pintles and gudgeons.

Continuation on the rudder.

The rudder is now complete, with the pintles epoxied on their place.

And finally putting it all together. I have now a working rudder on my little boat.

Pfeww, quite a while since i've been posting here.

I've made a little jig in order to be able to create my masts and spars. The mast has been made with it and it went very smooth.

Corsair-49-1.jpg.85c8df94665cbe4a4268379e95d502e0.jpg

I always start from square stock, reduced to the size of the minimum diameter with the table saw.

The result of the bowsprit.

Mast and bowsprit fitted to the boat.

Corsair-49-5.jpg.3439e1c6819ed2304d8b981fa6d6724f.jpg

I've done a bit of metalwork as well.  I've started on the bowsprit clamp.

Corsair-49-4.jpg

Below you'll see how i made the iron cap, for holding the bowsprit jibboom on the bowsprit.

First i've bended a strip of brass around my bowsprit.

Corsair-49-6.jpg.74270ce07e9f1518f39cb4ad2076fbb7.jpg

Then i formed an '8' from that.

Corsair-49-7.jpg.f795bfc3dd659e0af90b232eb6746323.jpg

Which i fixed with some silver soldering.

Chris,

Very very nice build, the lines on this boat are classic from bow to stern its so smooth it just flows like the rolling swells on a calm sea.

What a long time i've posted here. I switched jobs and life was hectic.

Meanwhile i've finished her.  I'll be posting some pictures of the last stages of her build.

The bowsprit is held in place by a wooden brace, the bowsprit bitts . Outboard by a iron retainer bolted to the stem.

Corsair-50-1.JPG.e3d3c027d042f00419dc16b239db59ba.JPG

The cleats are installed on the mast and spritsail boom.

Corsair-50-2.JPG.0d0ebb64a893b80cc57b8b9b8f1ed6b5.JPG

On the mast, near the top are two sheaves. Here they are simulated by drilling holes and forming them with a file.

The wheels of the sheave are simulated by a bamboo dowel.

Corsair-50-3.JPG.264c5801e428a57a4a8fcd1d5e945bb0.JPG

I've created the blocks myself. There were only 10 to make. Corsair-50-5.JPG.5448029dea172e97d1fe61e5f7709578.JPG

Corsair-50-6.JPG.2e84798924b1f599243dde31d9dcd63d.JPG

I made the eyebolts for to attach the blocks on deck.

Corsair-50-7.JPG.6915ba1091b318e7d47369e7d4b72c00.JPG

And installed the double blocks.

To make the sails, i first soaked the tissue in some tea for some time.

Corsair-51-1.thumb.JPG.5e34885c383fc872a4735cc4375808cc.JPG

After drying, i ironed them and use some starch.  Then i drew with a pencil the bands and cut them off.

Corsair-51-2.thumb.JPG.a570c42b164631af85263f9ce1388888.JPG

Then i glued them to each other with dilluted glue. Overlapping each other just slightly, taping them to a piece of glass.

Corsair-51-3.thumb.JPG.a781be11ddd5972aa3d952b7ff3437b8.JPG

When enough bands were glued to each other, i used a paper pattern of the sail to drew it on the tissue.

Corsair-51-4.thumb.JPG.3a8c09260ae54be034b105280c01b47f.JPG

Cutting it out.

Corsair-51-5.thumb.JPG.33fb5ab826d7e49122cc2a63080bae4a.JPG

And finish each sail with sewing the boltropes around them.

Corsair-51-6.thumb.JPG.25492e9495edf07f425d66d96b9eda6f.JPG

And behold, one finished sail :)

Corsair-51-7.thumb.JPG.7d971b5060d84b7c32943b37bae45e36.JPG

So, i did for all the sails.

I still need to add the reefing points to the mainsail.

Corsair-52-1.thumb.JPG.2cab9005725f1c9549d4a1310e6207ca.JPG

Afterwards i applied some diluted pva glue to the reefing lines and hanged a clamp on them to straighten them.

Corsair-52-2.thumb.JPG.f45a60d2a35af1a53a9a6fd24ae138cb.JPG

When dried i cut of the excesses.

Corsair-52-3.thumb.JPG.00e12f1d045a02cb91b8afe0902698e0.JPG

Then it was finally time to rig the first sail on her.

Hello Chris,

Nice job, you really captured the look of a Bermuda boat. Also, a reminder that there is no need to rush!

Thank you all. I'm very proud of her.

As for my next project, i'm not decided yet.

I'd really love to make a frigate. Three choices, Chucks beautiful winchelsea, the Triton or the gorgeous Belle Poule.  However i'm not sure i can take that on.

Perhaps the cutter Cheerful or La jacynthe would be a wiser choice.

So much choices...
