hello lamarvalley

I think you did a beautiful job on your sf but I just see two major flaws:
the first guy is too low
amounts of your mastheads are too coarse: the sailors would have more room to slip in
your balcony: have you planned an anti slip coating for marine falls in water?

make and break for ateindre best motivation is that you should keep in mind

cordially

Hi Randy,

Shrouds looking good.

Maybe it helps a little but I'm also almost at the part of ratlines on the Mirage…….

I hope today finishing the shrouds and then tomorrow ratlines time.

The only thing is ,I have a few more ratlines then you have  :(

Hi Randy,

I see that you all ready started with those ratlines.

Are you using the Clove Hitch?

Later this day I can also make a start at that.

Hi Randy,

Be careful and notice that your ratlines are not straight.

Some are lower on the same rope then the other.

I mean the knots…..

When you tide them up, drop a little glue on the knot and then use a tweezer to make the knot in the right place and let the rope goes with the line on the template.

Then it goes straight…...

They are not terrible but you can do better !

And you can always do the same thing as I do.

Make another row between the ones who are all ready there.

If you have any question about it or you want to see a picture how I do it, please let me know.

I have to work tomorrow and when I get home I shall look for your replay.

Don't give up my friend.

You are on the right track !!!!

You know a good friend have to say when you are on the wrong track, and is not to hurt you but well to be progressed!
I am registered on a naval forum in France or the administrator(director) who is one truths naval encyclopedia gives you the slightest small defect and urges you to improve you permanently and of the kept silent blow consider diférement at the models!
Am not afraid of questioning you because you are on the right track

only a true friend will tell you when you have a booger on your face.

Personally I thought they looked fine. The ratline should be smaller diameter rope then the shrouds also. I see too many where there isn't a significant difference between the 2. The only issue I saw was the knots/hitching size. Seems I read somewhere that in the scale models the clove hitch which is really the correct method produces a TOO large knot and there was another hitch that was smaller and looked less bulky. I don't even reallly see this as an issue except as ratline go up the shroud and get bunched toward the top.

But one things for sure, Randy does NOT do A- work or even A for that matter..... its 100% or nothing. The urge to "get on with it" I think is the worst monkey on any builders back. As Dubz calls it "deconstruction" is just as important as construction. For those of us building our first few models, I don't see issue with redoing and learning. As I know, your alot like me on that topic. It's not just about doing it, but more about understanding it and learning the art of tall ship construction and engineering.

Sorry I haven't been around much, luckily most of the time I was under the weather you were awaiting parts. No matter the ultimate outcome will be one of the SF standards for future builders to learn from. Seeing you struggle helps them understand that ship building is about perseverance and determination... and fun :dancetl6:

If your still having fun then your doing it right.

Too Florencia  Cheers.

Hi Randy,

For a first time effort you've done a really good job, yes there are a few problems and I have to agree with what's already been said but give yourself a great big pat on the back.

With every ship we build we learn something new every day, it's why we do it. So keep it up and continue to enjoy the journey.

Again, very well done.

Hi Randy,

When you take a look at my build you will see that I have re-done a few ratlines.

That's also a part of the learning curve…..

Take your benefit with it !

I know you can do it !

And for two builds together…..I had also the same toughest about it.

When I started a new one, the other one will be never finished.

But now I found out that it is nice to have a few builds together.

When I'm tiered of the ratlines ,I can do wood work on the San Ildefonso.

And the Mirage is still going on  :D

I see Popeye are doing it some where but now I want to do it also with you….HIGH FIVE

I think;

In fact making the ratlines seems boring when you look your ratlines from outside... But once you get into the work, you find yourself climbing, one by one, to the crow's nest... You don't want leave the work until you feel tired... But the essential is that when you are on the shrouds, look never upward, but downward, consistently... m0161.gif

Your ratlines look very nice, much better, Randy... When all finished, they will be more greater than you are thinking they must be...
