Thanks Alistair and racouch444 for the nice comments.  I got my Morope from curlee11@aol.com.  It is nice scale rope but in the future I will be buying my rope from the Syren Ship Model Company.  They produce excellent rope and it does not unravel like Morope does when you cut it.  The cannons are the ones that came with the kit.  After I cleaned them up, I painted them with Model Shipways Iron Cannon Black.

Hi Ryland

Just to concur with all you say - I used the kit supplied cannons and carriages ( these parts are all just fine) and Morope. Except for the Morope there is no need to upgrade. I'd definitely look at Chuck's rope offerings but I have so much Morope leftover that would be a shame to waste it.

Cheers

Thanks Rowan.  Glad to hear that you are feeling better.  The AVS is a very nice kit and I hope to get back to that build soon.  I am currently working on my Longboat model.  Once I finish these two models, then I can start on my Syren.  For my Syren, I have the replacement wood from HobbyMill and I have received my replacement blocks in swiss pear from Chuck.  I know I will not finish my AVS or the Longboat if I start my Syren.

Thanks Mark,

After seeing your completed AVS, it makes me want to get back to work on my AVS.  The AVS really builds into a nice model and there are several very nice AVS build logs on this site and completed models in the Gallery. Thanks for posting pictures of your AVS as I will be using them for reference in my build.

What a coincidence.  Today, I did a little work on the mast.  I just placed an order a few minutes ago for boxwood mast hoops from Chuck to replace the the kit ones.  This ship is begging me to finish it.  It is way overdue.  I would love to have it finished for the HRSMS 50th anniversary display at the Mariners' Museum.

Hello Ryland

Good to see you here with the model I finished years ago. It brings back fond memories. Your model is coming out very well. Continue to enjoy the build.

Hi Ryland....
What a beautiful clean job!

Any way I can get you to  come and do my cannon rigging when I get to that point?

if not....what if I bring my Connie to Virginia and hang out in your shop while you do my cannons?

Amazingly perfect work....not just the guns.... everything so clean and detailed.

Why didn't you finish the rigging if you don't mind me asking? Move onto another ship?

I started another ship model and then another.  It got put on the back burner and occasionally I will pull it out and do a little work on it.  I should really dedicate my time to finish this model.  It will be almost 22 years since I started this build.  Way too long to not have finished it.

Wow, I know people spend a long time making these ships but I wasn't expecting 22 years! How many have you completed since?

I'd like to see you finish it Ryland! I actually enjoyed the next phase - masts and rigging - much more than I expected. Now it is gathering dust in our dining room - I clean it every year and I still get a kick out of looking at it.

Cheers
