I have this strange world view that every body know this ship  ;)  ;) since I'm mostly posing on a rather small forum where 5 people are building it.

For those that don't this is a picture of the original model, showing what I am trying to achieve.

Michiel, as much as I enjoy doing a little carving, I do not think I would take this one on.....even at 1:50 scale. Anxious to see how you pull this off sir. From what I see, you certainly have the talent to do a great job. My hat is off to you sir.

5 people? Andy, you, me, and ?? :)

I guess you're also going to do the inside carvings?

What surprised me at the Original model, was that the carvings are rather cruse, and that the Original builder did not quite try to use his paint thin: quite a lot of detail is lost in the amount of paint.

most of the carvings of the cabin are already done, only the door on starboard needs to be completed.

Jean is doing a full scratch, boris finished a ex prinswillem, and recently there was a new guy announcing to be starting the kit as well...

Hi Guys,

Here's some details of the carvings, still some decisions to make but I'm closing in on the final result:

for scale refference:

The signil in the middel, it;s he one of Middelburg where the original was build

I finally decided that the things they are holding must be shells of some sort:

Have fun,

It will contain a picture of a city view and four carved support knies.

That was a completely new challenge in ship building for me. Painting the city view on the hollow bottom section of the rear of the ship:

The next step will be finishing the four figurines that will come on top. A lot of carving there..

The wonders of google translate....

'Openstaande'  in dutch means 'not closed' (you can have an 'openstaande deur', which means that is is not closed....), or it refers to bills not yet payed (an 'openstaande rekening' means an 'unpaid bill')

Google should in this case translate 'outstanding' with 'uitmuntend', 'voortreffelijk' or 'buitengewoon', which are all accepted (but apparently not by google....) ways of expressing admiration. Which, I have to admit without any reservation, this carving and painting deserves.

Every carving you show is just beautiful. The details for such a small piece is amazing. You are an excellent carver.

Hard stikke mooi schip.

thanks a lot guys,

I do agree a bit that the single pieces may look better unpainted. I'm however trying to reproduce the total look and feel of the, brightly painted, original ship. I prefer that over a more stylized version without paint.
