TBlack got a reaction from GrandpaPhil in HMS Sophie by TBlack - kit-bashing Jack Aubrey's first command from the Vanguard Models HMS Speedy
Also, if you notice in the photo, above, the main mast shrouds are attached to the black strake, and the wale is immediately below. Speedy's wale looks like this:
Significant difference. Also notice that the wale in HMS Sophie follows the waterline along the after part of the ship. I need to do some drafting.

On the fourth try I've finally gotten this little bugger just right. There isn't a single 90 degree angle in it!
Now I need to fix the location of the waterline and the wale which is guided by the picture:
At the same time, I'm looking at where the quarterdeck bulwark meets the transom, carrying that line downward, and it looks like the outboard window is outboard of the hull line. Any thoughts?

Keith,
We know from the descriptions in the book that Sophie was, indeed, low in the water. So, the picture is accurate.

Thank you to all for the comments and likes, I am truly humbled.
All the yards are populated with their respective blocks. Of course the last yard I did turned out the best of the nine, isn't that always the case. I still need to seal the yards.
So it's on to stropping the blocks for the mast and gaffs. Thank you again for stopping by and providing me your support.
Slowly but surely we're getting there.

Charles,
I have one of these today, minus the flex shaft. And you are absolutely right on all points. It's amazing that I can get anything cut right.

You mean the time they tried to drive the Jeep into the front hall? I think those are high standards! I mean who else would try that?

Several years ago, when Chuck Passaro was starting to offer blocks through his company, he add a visual tutorial that showed how he mass produced
them. Is that tutorial still available? In addition, my brother is holding up the standards of our family.

TBlack got a reaction from Canute in Glue suggestion for connection
I'm sure the titebond is adequate. Any way to clamp the wale in position? I like elastic bands with a piece of wood between the wale and the band. Possible?

TBlack reacted to Roger Pellett in NRG VIRTUAL WORKSHOP - USING THE TABLE SAW
Not a special blade but a different one that I am using for wood. When I bought the saw many years ago, I bought a very fine toothed blade; 300+ teeth, assuming that a finer toothed blade would be better for smooth cuts in wood. It didn’t work well for wood but is perfect for sheet brass. Cuts are distortion free.

TBlack reacted to Gaetan Bordeleau in Jewelry Tools
I saw this Jewelry tool dealer this morning for the first time.
Jewelry tools are very useful for us the model ship makers.
In the flex shaft and rotary category, to give an example, if you want to buy something much better than a Dremel; brushless are the best.

TBlack reacted to allanyed in Jewelry Tools
They look to have very competitive prices for Foredom products. Are there good reasons to go with their 1/3HP rather than the 1/6HP for our ship model drilling and carving needs? My old Dremel flex unit is still working, but I am not sure how much longer it will last. At least that is what I keep telling myself in order to justify the expenditure for a Foredom unit.
TIA
