    Boat oars.... The oars are a bit of a challenge, with well over thirty of them needed for the four boats. After several attempts at turning the long oars on my lathe, following Ken's method, I must confess complete failure.... decided to take a different approach. I ripped several strips of bamboo to the exact width of the oar blade and marked off the handle length..... two oars per strip. Then I set my small table saw blade to rip each side of the handles up to the blade marks.... then removed the outside material, leaving the handles..... (as seen in the third strip below). It then became a simple matter of rounding the handles down and then start pulling them through a draw plate to get the scale size. The blades were then very easily shaped with sanding boards.

    Input request.... Spent all morning researching the mounting of the Connie’s boats. I guess the general conclusion being that we have a lot of latitude in terms of the main hatch launch.... whether or not to stack a cutter on top of the larger launch. I am opting to not stack the cutter, although I may decide later to mount a cutter on the display base. My immediate question is the method of securing the launch over the main hatch. So many versions to be found in my browsing. Three ropes with simple hooks into eye bolts? Or more elaborate block and tackle rigging as was done by our dear friend Tom? Any thoughts?

    Launches progress...... Just one quick shot of the completed launches before I set them aside and move back to the mother ship. Still need to create oars and a few minor details.

    Good to hear. My fondest memories.... working with you along with Rusty on Syren and Confederacy. I see the Winchelsea as having the same or even greater potential as the Confederacy. Dave

    PINNACE.... Just a single progress shot as I'm about to add the remaining 6 thwarts, rails and rowlocks. My plan is to move on to the two whale boats and bring them to this stage before working on all the finer details.... knees, cleats, rudder, etc

    GIG completed.... Decided to complete the Gig first because it appeared to be the more difficult details. I'll be moving to the Pinnace next.... Looks as if we're gonna be building launches for quite a while.

    Can’t imagine anything Chuck could do to help us with establishing a NC / SC regional ship modelers club. Thinking maybe a couple of adds in some strategic newspapers for starter.

    Would be thrilled to have you and your friend. Need to find more friends from the surrounding area that may be interested in forming a “tall ship” modelers club....monthly or quarterly meetings. You might know, the only active groups around here are strictly plastic (IPMS)..... military planes, tanks, etc. Dave

    Shaping the launch hulls - I started to make the little calipers suggested by the downloaded kit instructions, but decided to make a simple modification to my trusty old micrometer instead. Took about 5 minutes.... and works perfectly.

    High 50's here..... kept the shipyard door open all day. Nice.
