Paint looks really nice and I like that slightly darker color. Was wondering what type of paint that is?

A bit of progress. Made a template from the plans and then adjusted it to sit low. Had to reinforce the backside of platform to prevent sagging to the edge glued boards but it came out ok i think. The last few times the wipe-on-poly has seemed to come out of the can a bit thick and slow? Kinda darker color as well. Can this stuff go bad? I have had it for a bunch of years. Doesn't seem to be splotchy or anything. For now will keep using as it doesn't seem to be doing anything bad.

Ben, glad to see you are going with the exposed frames. I too very much like the detail this style gives.

As usual BE your work is exceptional. Here is a ridiculous question. Were the hoked planks always "hooked" toward the outside as you have them? I think the way you have done this looks correct but for some reason I think I remember someone here on the site having the outboard plank hooked to the inside. Probably faulty memory/early onset dementia on my part but just wondering.

Exactly Ben. I knocked off the big chunks left over from the removal and promptly ditched the power. Been using 180 and it seems to be going well so far. Along with CA that thing is just not something I want to use.

I very much enjoy seeing the processes that builders go through. I like learning from the problems and issues they have to overcome. While it is wonderful we have so many elite builders here I think I learn more seeing the "regular" people like me progressing. Looking forward to your build

I am pretty dangerous with the power tools. Will need to take it slow if I decide to use it. Probably over multiple sessions a little at a time. Steve did you use a drum attachment or a disk?

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
