Sjors, Sorry to hear its not working out. You build will be great regardless. If you ever want to revisit the serving with out a machine check out a fly tieing bobbin holder like the one linked below.

Hi Greg, Nigel and everyone else for their Likes and comments.  I greatly appreciate them.

As for Majellan, well, I've done a little bit more on the internal fit-out of her Main Saloon.  In the following photos, you'll notice that I've added her main dining table, and the cabinetry that sits against the cabin walls (some of which are situated under the windows; others of which are in the corners of the saloon).  I've also made the main couches in the seating area (although they still require shaping and for the cushions to be added) and the drinks bar.

Still, lots of fun work to go.

    Cheers and all the best!

    Patrick

    nice carronade.
I am trying to turn the belaying pins and know how difficult that must be.
Do you intend to paint and if so, what are you planning to use.?

We`ll see about wheel, Gerhard ... it seems it has to be a bit over-scaled ... we`ll see it ...

This year Catholic and Orthodox Easter are separated almost a month. The exact date of the celebration was the reason for many discussion since the time when Christianity outgrow from Judaism (first time at 154 year b.c), then at 325. ( first Nicene Council) etc etc until establishment a difference between Solar year and lunar Year  and Gregorian and Iulian Calendar. In Wikipedia it is elaborated very well. I have read a lot of books about religion development, and formed my own opinion, considering I am atheist

And now we are here we are, in my opinion, artificially separated to Catholic and Orthodox long time ago by religious or "religious" leaders wishful of power. But, this is ancient history, and some events in history followed with a particular course of conduct repeated through centuries becomes national custom and a part of national identity, national and religious holiday, anyhow nice time for family and friends to get together and to spend a good time.

This year Orthodox Easter is dated to may 1th, and considering there are five connected days of both holidays, my twin brother and his wife, my cousin and his wife, my niece and her husband and me, plan to travel couple o days and to visit famous locality  Đavolja Varoš  ( Devil`s town) 350 km from Belgrade to South, if zou can remember, a candidate for "seven wonders of world" couple of years ago. It will be a really great time, and I need it, desperately

If I did not explain well name of thos locality, here are some pics from last time I was there nine years go traveling to Bulgaria, and I am sure you will recognize this place. I am sorry for bad pictures, they were made with bad camera many years ago

I wish to all of my Catholic MSW friends to spend a good time during Easter !!!!

    @ Sam,

    That is not the problem.
The rope is very long and because I have to fix it before I cut the length is it impossible to let it turn with the crank.
When I take short pieces of rope there is to much that I have to trow away and I find that a shame of the rope.
But thanks for thinking with me

    @ Ulises,

You give a nice , sunday morning job.....but it is not working for me !
I tried everything and nothing worked.
So my stay's don't get serving but only seizing.....
The rope is not that bad to look at it.
For the rest....happy Eastern and don't eat to much eggs !!!!!!!

Great job on the wooden cannonade JesseLee, perfection.  Give Sawdust Dave a PM and ask him for assistance on mold making and casting.  Hobby lobby and any arts and crafts store have these kits in stock and are rather inexpensive.
On the other hand though, making them from wood is a fun thing to do, hmmm, I'm smiling as I say that    After a few you'll get the hang of it and can turn them out in a hurry.  Satisfaction of a job well done is worth it's weight in gold.  Keep plugging at it my friend, you are now in the scratch build world.

That's some good-looking rope. Like Jason, I don't think the entire stay would be served, like the shrouds are.

Don't feel guilty, Glen. I have been using simulated nuts from Scale Hardware http://www.scalehardware.com/simulated-micro-hardware-c-47. You can't fake it any better than this.

Sjors... why not serve them by hand? I would never buy a serving machine when I can do that job by hand very easily. I place two alligator clips at a certain distance, put the line taut between them, and with a spool of thread in my hand start serving. It really is very simple.

I think turning them out of wood is probably the better of choices. At least when compared to building them up that much!  The real trick is getting them all consistent, but it's doable.

    Thanks everybody,

Michael, I hope I haven't let you down. I cheated a bit with the u-bolt nuts. The hole is undersized and they are driven on tightly-- no threads. 00-90 is the smallest tap and die I have - too large for the 1/32 inch rod. So far, all the other fasteners have been threaded. Sorry about that.

Cathead, Heroine's paddle wheels were 16 feet from spoke tip to tip. We haven't given the dimensions the full consideration that they need yet but your observations have started me wondering. I need to look back at the table in Adam Kane's thesis. I think he lists several vessels with the size of their paddle wheels. Hopefully, we can find a pattern.

However, after taking a good long afternoon nap, came back to the shop to re-study this most important piece.
Unless I change my mind after a nights sleep, I will likely begin version II of this fixture tomorrow morning.

I used a piece of the sail material I got with the Gothenborg.   they don't give you enough to do them IMO........it looks and feels like canvas,  especially if you give it a lacquer coat.
