  1. Brian, thanks a bunch for the compliments and encouragement. After this post (and photos) my next progress posting should have the coarse yard lifts and some halliards and downhauls. I'm looking forward to diving into this part of the rigging as it will help give my Niagara that "busy" look we all strive for when we order that fully rigged ship. Larry, Here are some photos of the plans from my cradle. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
  2. Larry, I will get the cradle measurements and pictures up as soon as I get a chance. Dave, thanks for looking in. You should get a build log started with your Niagara. It's never too late in a build to show us all your masterpiece. Sjors, thanks for looking in. I hope to have some more progress up soon. The running rigging is going a little quicker than I'd previously thought it would go. Ken, thanks for looking in too. I think I'm going to stick with the current cradle I'm using for this build. I didn't want to screw her down to any mountings so I would have the freedom to move the Niagara around slightly in her cradle. I may put some decorative pieces on to the vertical cradle pieces to improve it's looks though.
  3. John, welcome aboard to my build log. Thanks for the compliment! This has been a fun ship to build.
  4. I would like to see these jigs. Anything to make the tedium go faster is always welcome.
  5. Larry, thanks for looking in. She currently sits loose in her cradle. I am thinking about putting a locating pin in the cradle to give it a bit more stability but I don't think I will ever permanently secure her to the cradle. BTW, thanks for the compliment of adding that photo to your desktop. If you're interested, I can take some measurements of the cradle and post them here for you.
  6. Paul, this work is extraordinary! I'm sure you couldn't get more detailed unless you were an inch high.
  7. Robert, thanks for looking in. The last shot is my favorite. The gaff and boom help to not make her look so ungainly and tall.
  8. Rich, I stuck with the blocks in the kit for this ship. I'll be putting the smaller blocks on the Connie when I get to her. I have been wanting to make my own rope as well but will most likely do that on my next build. The craft stores are usually pretty good spots to find some other sizes of line for rigging also.
  9. Rich and Popeye, thanks for looking in and the compliments. I'd like to have some more pictures up after this weekend but we'll see. I have to do a little traveling this weekend but hopefully I'll get some time with my ship.
  10. Thanks for looking in Augie. I guess they should be somewhat similar since they are both brigs, We're neck and neck on these builds.
  11. Rich, the carronade looks good. The blocks are a little out of scale and it's a shame that Model Shipways doesn't account for it. I have some much smaller blocks from a botched Phantom kit that I plan on putting to good use for my Connie when the day comes.
  12. Mobbsie, at least you caught it before you had them all cut and were trying to fit them. As fast as you work, I'm sure this has only set you back by about an hour. LOL
  13. It's been a bit since I have posted an update. The boom and gaff took a bit to construct and rig. Along the way I broke the tiller from the rudder so I had to redo it and it's steering rigging. I feel that it has a cleaner look to it now so it was a small blessing in disguise. I finally found a rope for my anchors' hawsers and the leader rope for them. Jo-Ann Fabrics and Michaels are treasure troves for the model ship builder. I'll be doing some more work and hopefully will have some more progress posted soon. As always, thanks for stopping by and please feel free to offer any tips, suggestions, or criticism.
  14. Popeye, what made you change your mind on weathering the Denny Zen? I think it looks good and well used though. The debris in the lobster traps will really help add to the realism. As an armor modeler I enjoy weathering and think this looks really nice on your boat too. Keep up the good work!
  15. Jeff, the progress looks very nice. The gunports are usually closed on the ship anyway, so if you're modelling her in her current state, then this would be the most accurate. The skylight also looks good; very symmetrical.
  16. Bob, I'm happy to see the bow section completed again. I guess we're all caught up to current now. I'm looking forward to seeing more progress.
  17. So far so good Augie. The rigging looks really clean. I'm kind of waiting for you to accomplish some more so I can follow along (our ships have some similar rigging).
  18. Robert, the capping rails look good. Carl is right about making any holes in the hull....
  19. Alright Sjors!!! I like to see updates and pictures. It's looking great!
  20. This is almost up to current before the great crash. I've enjoyed quietly following this log since it was started on our original MSW. Your work is outstanding.
  21. It's good to hear you are making progress on your Niagara Rich. If I were at the starting line again I'd make my own rope too.
  22. Hey Andy, your progress is looking good. While it may not be the most visually exciting for picture purposes, we all know what's coming next with rigging and all it's glory. I've had some issues with square to round as well and in some cases it was easier to take square stock and piece it on to the round section using a dowel through the center as a strengthener. I've also started with square stock as well. I wonder if anyone from the manufacturers tries to assemble these kits after piecing together the prototype kit.
  23. I am at work Sjors. I start at 6:30 am and get out at 3:30 pm. Fortunately, my work involved computers and fast internet so I can watch along with all of the excellent builds on MSW.
